AI is not just a technology topic. If you have been following any news (as well as my LinkedIn posts 😉) over the last few months, you know that Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. It is shaping industries and lives worldwide. 🌍 To ensure Europe’s position at the forefront of this #revolution, collaboration between the different players is crucial. Governments, industry and academia need to come together to create innovation that aligns with our shared values. 🤝 Yesterday, the DLD Conference AI Summit brought together 40 expert speakers and more than 400 international attendees and media representatives to dive deeper into the questions and debates around the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence. This collaboration on AI needs to happen across disciplines and with diverse minds to generate the most value and a good future for all. 🙏 I had the chance to have Prof. Dr. Helmut Schoenenberger and Ana Paula De Jesus Assis on stage with me to discuss how we can best ensure that we are stopping the brain drain in Germany, and that AI is being done “the European way”. Can Britain be the world’s AI trailblazer? The rise of #AI and the leap that generative AI has taken in the last year has led to an explosion of innovation and the development of a tech ecosystem that is critical to the future of the global economy and society as a whole. AI has far-reaching implications for us all and Britain already has leadership in this area with Google DeepMind, Anthropic, OpenAI and Palantir Technologies having AI teams here. Katie Prescott of The Times recently looked at the extent of the UK’s leadership in AI with input from Saul Klein, founder of Phoenix Court and European seed fund LocalGlobe who has named Kings Cross as “the new Square Mile”, an area fast becoming one of the most valuable districts in the world because of its fast-growing tech companies 🚀 With further insights from Plural Platform co-founder Ian Hogarth and featuring Blossom Capital portfolio company AutogenAI, this article is a must-read on AI and its potential for the UK economy.

Today, we were glad to be represented in a debriefing session organized by the Center for Cooperation in Cyberspace, in which key points from the AI For Good Global Summit 2024, in Geneva, were discussed. The event gathered State officials, entrepreneurs, public sector representatives and diplomats to analyze the ecosystem's insights from the summit. The discussions focused on using #AI as a catalyst for accelerating the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). #ToChallengeComplexity

TThe rise of AI in everyday use in the UK in 2023 has been meteoric.   As it is adopted into different sectors and used in a seemingly endless variety of ways, new businesses will emerge, and existing ones will diversify off the back of the opportunities it presents.   It was great to see one of our clients Sentient Sports in The Times yesterday, lauded as a shining light in the use of AI in their sector. This week I was delighted to deliver the opening address for the packed out AI Summit hosted by Scottish AI Alliance at Dynamic Earth. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌎👩💻 Huge demand for places and could have filled the room twice over! It is certainly vital that #AI is trustworthy, ethical and inclusive and at the same time we make the most of this technology to create a more productive economy and reformed public services as well as playing our role in the betterment of humankind and our planet. Scotland starts from a good place given our academic and research exportise in AI, data and so many other relevant areas and a growing AI landscape & ecosystem. We need to build momentum and a national mission to grasp the opportunities and navigate the risks. Great to join the AI Global Forum and the AI Seoul Summit, co-hosted by the UK and Korea in Seoul, highlighting the importance of international cooperation to ensure safety and innovation of AI. Insights taken from keynote address were that policy makers need to closely work with the industry and experts to better understand rapidly developing AI technology and its benefits & risks. Andrew Ng, Managing General Partner of AI Fund, suggested governments to differentiate applications from technology to apply regulations. This would require acute awareness and comprehensive understanding of AI ecosystem, that can be only supported by close public-private cooperation. I expect such efforts to be boosted by the works of AI Safety Institutes already established and planned to be established in various countries and look forward to their endeavors in addressing tricky balance of safety and technical innovation. #aisafetysummit #aiglobalforum #aiseoulsummit

Exclusive from Global AI Ecosystem: The first map of all AI companies in the UK revealed. With 4,710 companies, Greater London leads the charge in innovation. But there are still an impressive 8,900 total companies in the UK, enough to secure its Number 3 globally. AI companies are scattered throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the main clusters seen around London and the Midlands including in Birmingham. The UK also boasts a staggering 4,100 AI investment funds (with 600 of them based in the UK), 500,000 AI specialists, and 280 ongoing AI projects, according to the new data. All in all, the strength of the UK offering lines it up to become a £2.4 trillion AI Economy by 2027.
