The name Treehouse derives from the concept’s key feature: a double-height common area located four stories above ground level; a new typology to affordable senior living that transforms the stereotypes associated with typical retirement homes. Accessible by elevators, but intended primarily by a set of open stairs, this mid building two storey community place offers a constant connection to the outside world though aerial views and tree canopy sightlines, providing residents with an ongoing relationship with the changing seasons, weather patterns and time of day.   Typically, multi-unit housing locates common areas, such as dining rooms and shared kitchens, on the ground level, with residential units above. Several benefits emerge when these gathering spaces are placed higher up, where windows offer greater visual prospect and sensory stimulation, derived from aerial views, is especially important for those who may have mobility issues and can’t easily venture outdoors. Good to see Luminaires entering the market that don't have to follow the typical and now expected functional 'same all' format route to be a cost effective solution. Hopefully an indicator for potential things to come. Surely you shouldn't be punished and have to spend and utilise large amounts of your budgets just to be different and try to add some character into your street lighting? Yes there will be scenarios where higher end products will be required for your specific heritage/contemporary scheme but we should also have options to be more creative with main stream competitively priced 'attractive' options. Even more so in the modern era where we don't need to regularly access the internals for lamp changes etc. so you can forgo the easy access options to save on costs (in fact it is a benefit to avoid opening the lantern - the amount of times a lantern failure in the past has been due to incorrect sealing after a maintenance site visit!) and it can be a fit and let run scenario.
