𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐓 𝐉𝐅𝐊 (𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝟐) A few days ago I posted about an incident at JFK airport in June 2022 - https://lnkd.in/g8vEqph9 A couple of further thoughts: 🟧 Several people have commented on the quality of the Air France pilot’s English. My view is that his English (based on this short sample) would meet the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements. He certainly has a distinct French accent (as can be expected) but for me it is clear and intelligible. For example, the ‘h’ sound is almost missing when he says the word ‘hit’ but he seems aware of this and consciously tries to pronounce it as clearly as he can. In fact, the controller appears to have understood perfectly well (‘You are saying that the Alitalia aircraft hit you?’) 🟧 The video below contains the audio of the short exchange between JFK Tower and the ITA pilot *after* take-off. I'm interested to learn what people think about this exchange. Is this standard operational procedure? I am neither a pilot nor controller but to me asking the pilot ‘Did you experience any damage to the aircraft?" seems very strange. Clearly the ITA pilot does not *know* that he hit the parked AF aircraft (as otherwise he would never have taken off). So how does he *know* his plane was not damaged? Does the controller not believe what the AF pilot reported? Should the ITA flight have returned to JFK or was it the correct decision to continue its flight across the Atlantic? #aviationsafety #communication #icao

#DidYouKnowFriday Did you know that French was once the official language of England for almost 300 years, from 1066 to 1362? Yes, it's true! After William the Conqueror took over in 1066, French became the language of the ruling class, while regular folks spoke English. But here's another cool thing: France also led the way in aviation! Back in 1909, a Frenchman named Louis Blériot made France's first-ever powered flight. And guess what? They coined some fancy aviation words like "fuselage" and "aileron" that we still use today in English! Fast forward to 1362, and English regained its status as the main language. This happened after some big historical events, like England losing Normandy and getting into a 100-year-long war with France. It's an honour to work with pilots from such great airlines as Air France. Pilots, and indeed Air Traffic Controllers, must achieve a level 4 in their ICAO English tests in order to remain operational. This ensures safety and effective communication. We work to enhance their Aviation English, but also to develop their General English to prepare students for any eventuality they may encounter in the cockpit or air traffic control tower. #AviationEnglish #PilotTraining #ICAOEnglish #LanguageProficiency #EnglishLanguage #ProfessionalDevelopment #AviationIndustry #ESL

This week, one of our most popular news articles is about Nigeria’s Air Peace, which would like to cooperate with Norse Atlantic Airways to launch flights from Lagos to London Gatwick as they struggle to secure their slots. We thought it would be interesting to compare them to each other in this graph. Norse Atlantic Airways holds 44 weekly slots at London Gatwick for the Summer 2024 season, utilising 32 so far. Air Peace was authorised to operate in the UK in November 2023 but has yet to secure market access. It operates one Boeing B777-200ER and two Boeing B777-300s, as well as a fleet of narrowbody and regional aircraft unable to reach the UK non-stop, including seven Boeing B737-300s, six Boeing B737-500s, one Do328-300, eight Embraer E145s, and five Embraer E195-E2s. It has a firm order for five Embraer E175s, ten Boeing B737-8s, and eight more Embraer E195-E2s. Norse Atlantic Airways didn't respond to ch-aviation's query about leasing or trading its slots to Air Peace. Norse Atlantic Airways's Senior VP (Communications), Philip Allport, said the airlines only had "an initial informal meeting" regarding the potential cooperation. #chaviation #aviationnews #norseatlantic #airpeace #boeing #embraer #gatwick Norse Atlantic Airways Air Peace London Gatwick Boeing Embraer Philip Allport Bjorn Tore Larsen Thom-Arne Norheim Bård Nordhagen Barr Allen Onyema Toyin Olajide

Implementing specialization in the air cargo industry involves focusing on a particular area, like handling temperature-sensitive cargo or dangerous goods. This requires thorough research to understand the demand, opportunities, and skills needed in that niche. Gaining experience and expertise through projects, training, and mentorship is key to establishing credibility in your chosen specialization. Networking with industry professionals, attending events, and keeping up with advancements are essential for staying connected and updated in your specialized field. Showcasing your expertise through your work and contributions to the industry is also important. #Aviation #AviationRoutes #AirCargo

Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing interesting facts about the English language and public speaking Fact1: English is the language of the air. Language barriers and miscommunications have caused some of the most fatal accidents in aviation history. That is why, in 2008, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) declared English as the standardized language of air travel. Pilots, flight crews, and air traffic controllers must now pass an English language proficiency test to work in aviation. Mental Floss explains that applicants are required to know appropriate terminology, understand instructions in English over radio, and develop an accent that is intelligible to the aeronautical community. #communication #leadership #motivation #entrepreneur #communicationskills #success #publicspeaking #coaching #life #training

The Pilot-in-Command was the last one to leave the burning aircraft. PS: As a comparison, a maritime tradition says that the captain should be the last person to leave their ship alive before its sinking, and if they're unable to evacuate the crew and passengers from the ship, the captain will choose not to save himself even if he has an opportunity to do so. #japan #aviation
