I would happily bike or scoot in any major Florida downtown before Dallas Tx. Downtown Dallas has a lot of broken concrete and asphalt ROW that could easily be transformed into a great #multimodal network. Yes Florida is Dangerously by Design and leads in places with high bicycle and pedestrian fatalities. However, some of it maybe due to the fact people can actually walk, bicycle and scoot in Florida. Dan Burden set #FDOT on a path towards complete streets. Billy Hattaway, PE, MBA, RSP1 advanced complete streets in Florida at a statewide level. Local governments, MPO’s and FDOT continue to strive to make Florida’s streets safer. Traveling to places like Dallas and LA reminds me how far ahead Florida is with implementing complete streets. We still have a long way to go. You at least have the choice in many Florida communities to walk, bicycle and scoot. Most other places in the U.S. don’t have great networks. We’re excited to share that we’ve been selected to provide complete streets design of the Bay Drive Corridor from West Cliff Drive to High Street in the City of Santa Cruz! Bay Drive experiences heavy traffic volume from various modes of transportation and serves as a crucial link connecting vital destinations within Santa Cruz. From 2017 to 2022, this corridor witnessed 47 collisions, with more than 30% of them being a result of excessive speed. The City aims to transform the Bay Corridor to a human-centered route and is committed to improving safety measures along this corridor and enhancing options for multi-modal transportation. This vision includes separated bike facilities along the entire length, accessible pedestrian facilities, shortened crossing distances, intersection improvements to enhance the safety and mobility for all roadway users, and improvements to transit accessibility. #ActiveTransportation #CompleteStreets #WeAreMarkThomas

To reduce pedestrian fatalities, we need to make our roadways safer. We need self-enforcing streets that guide drivers to slow down so they can avoid/reduce the severity of crashes. We need Complete Streets. But sometimes it's hard to figure out what the problem is and how to solve it. We are thrilled to report that new legislation was just passed that will address one of the top barriers to designing and building Complete Streets. This is a major step forward for Illinois, so that roadway designs can now prioritize people walking and biking. Milwaukee County will use a $226K federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant to fill a missing link between the Beerline Trail and the planned 20th Street Trail. Some rural North Carolina intersections being turned into all-way stops BEULAVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A few intersections in Duplin County will be getting turned into all-way stops in January of 2025. Those areas seeing the change are the intersection of N.C. Highway 41 and Jackson Store Road in Beulaville. The organization identifies intersections that a four-way stop would be most likely to reduce crashes. “An all-way stop is a cost effective and efficient means of improving safety and has been shown to reduce fatalities and severe crashes by 77 percent,” Cox said. “What will be installed at that intersection particularly for the N.C. 41 approach at Jackson Store Road will be a set of stop signs, as well as, stop ahead warning signs and, as well as, a red flasher on that right shoulder stop sign to draw more attention to this changing traffic pattern.” The all-way stop work will also be done starting Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 near Warsaw and Faison as N.C. Highway 50 and N.C. Highway 403 at Warren Road and then near Warren Road and Solomon Street. #NorthCarolina #NCDOT #transportation
