🌴 The degradation of trees at the edges of tropical forests is more widespread than previously thought, according to new research. 🪵 Trees near deforested or degraded areas of the forest are more vulnerable to drought and human activity such as logging. The study indicates that the impacts of these “edge effects” are felt much further into the forest than previously estimated. 🗣️ Experts not involved in the study tell Carbon Brief that quantifying tropical forest degradation is “frustratingly elusive”, and while some praise the methods used in the paper, others advise caution when interpreting the conclusions. Sponge City: A beautiful innovation for the purpose of flood control, cleaner water/purification, cleaner ground water, enriched biodiversity, lower burdens on drainage etc.. Very expensive though good for countries with negative cases like that of floods, which claims people's lifes and destroy infrastructures. But we are far from such innovations as Ls; worse when coming to facilities like: permeable pavements, sunken green spaces and green roofs! Droughts make flooding worse‼️ The healthier the soil is, the faster and better it can absorb water, such as for example rainfall.
