🌎Did you know that Luxembourg is already participating for the 25th time in a World Expo? A different team of talented architects was responsible for the building each time. ✏️The Luxembourgish architectural firm responsible for this year's pavilion is STDM architectes urbanistes. On a net surface of 1250m2, the planned pavilion aims to welcome and intrigue its guests at the same time, inviting them to discover and relax. 🌈The core concept? Here’s how we’re setting new standards in sustainable construction: 🔹 Lightweight Construction: Utilizing rigid steel frames linked with removable concrete blocks, we’ve minimized environmental impact while maximizing efficiency. This floating foundation system is both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. 🔹 Designed for Disassembly & Reusability: Every component of our foundation is designed for easy disassembly and reuse, ensuring that the materials maintain their integrity for future construction projects. This approach significantly reduces waste and promotes resource conservation. 🔹 Light excavation : By avoiding traditional excavation methods, we’ve strongly limited the need for cement and water, further reducing our environmental footprint. The Luxembourg Pavilion is more than just a building; it’s a manifesto of what’s possible when innovative design meets sustainable practices. UAEU Research Team from Architectural Engineering Department are actively investigating the future of urban living by unveiling the dynamics of 'CityWalks' in Dubai, led by Dr. Khaled Galal Ahmed and Eng. Alaa Omar Kordi. The study delves into the distinctive urban typologies and morphologies of emerging CityWalks, playing a pivotal role in shaping Dubai into a socially vibrant city. Specifically, the research explores the urban landscapes of Al Wasel, Marsa Dubai, and Al Hamriya, unraveling the unique features inherent in each CityWalk. The goal of this research is to impact urban planning standards, laying the groundwork for the development of more CityWalks not only in Dubai but also throughout the UAE. The Vietnam Smart Construction Exhibition 2023 (Smart Build Vietnam 2023) kicked off on December 14 at the WTC International Exhibition Center, with a notable presence of representatives from provincial departments, Binh Duong Construction Association, Becamex IDC Corporation, and local construction enterprises. The event, spanning from December 14 to 16, features 80 booths and draws over 50 businesses across various sectors such as construction, machinery, construction materials, interior and exterior decoration, and real estate. 🌍 Inside World Expo’s Giant Ring: Work Begins on Timber Pavilions! ⏰ With less than 200 days until the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, construction is underway on over 157 pavilions and exhibits within the impressive 2 km wooden “Ring,” one of the largest wooden structures ever built. This Expo marks Japan's first hosting since 1970, and the organisers are committed to sustainability. 🔎 What You Need to Know: 1️⃣ Sustainable Practices: The Expo organisers have pledged to reuse over 27,000 cubic meters of timber from the grand ring in future projects, highlighting a commitment to sustainability as Japan reflects on its construction legacy. This timber includes materials sourced from Namie, Fukushima, an area deeply affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. 2️⃣ Architectural Icon: Designed by a collaboration of Japan's top contractors, including Obayashi Corp, Takenaka Corporation, and Shimizu Corporation, the ring features a 12-meter-high “Ring Skywalk” and an 8-meter-wide walkway. The innovative construction employs traditional Japanese techniques, emphasising craftsmanship and cultural heritage. 3️⃣ Global Collaboration: As attendees from around the world gather under the grand ring, the focus will shift to the unique contributions of each participating country’s pavilion.
