Our very own Kris Engskov had an opportunity to weigh in on the future of the GUIDE program under the incoming administration in a recent article published in Memory Care Business. “Certainly from our viewpoint, this is a proven model that delivers great clinical outcomes and reduces cost, and those are the two things we have to do right.” This program is a critical step in proving better care for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Experts agree it's the least we can do. #LivingwithDementia #moregooddays #aboutdamntime

Right at Home is thrilled to share news of our partnership with PocketRN to ensure eligible home care clients with Dementia get the new Medicare wrap around support services needed to remain in their own homes. These needed Medicare benefits such as a 24/7 helpline to a clinician, care coordination, medication management, home care respite services, family caregiver training and a designated PocketRN nurse team member provide needed coordination of care for families struggling in a fragmented healthcare system. The GUIDE payment model is a game changer for both beneficiaries and collaborative care in the community. PocketRN is an elite partner and innovative leader in healthcare delivery – it has been a pleasure to work with Jenna Morgenstern-Gaines (she/her), William Leiner, Amanda Williams, Erica Seal, Nancy Gillette, Amy Xiong and the rest of their teams over the last six months to test and develop the operations to implement the CMS GUIDE model as we prepare for the July nationwide launch.

In one of the largest and most diverse counties in the United States, we work closely with community based organizations, federal agencies, and local elected officials to ensure that family caregivers of people living with dementia receive the support we need. Today, we were honored to speak in favor of a resolution recognizing #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth What our founder, Dona Murphey MD PhD, had to say about it. “AARP estimates that 3.4 million family caregivers in Texas provide $41 billion of unpaid labor annually. In a state that has not expanded Medicaid, many lack access to vital home and community-based services that could ease this burden. Deregulation further threatens healthcare, raising costs without improving outcomes and deepening racialized health disparities. This highlights the need for Harris County to support caregivers. You can do this by ensuring our first responders are educated about how to manage people with dementia who may be wandering or publicly agitated and by investing in language access, public health, and healthcare measures to better meet the intersectional needs our families. As a neurologist and caregiver who founded PrognosUs, I work with families navigating dementia, the costliest disease of aging. The lifetime cost of dementia care can exceed $300,000, and the toll on caregivers is incalculable. Convenient, consistent, culturally fluent, credible, and low-cost support for caregivers is essential. With the help of Mater Osueke and our community health worker team, we achieve this. Rosalynn Carter famously said, “There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.” We thank the court for your commitment to us all.” #dementia #caregiver

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 - 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁! That's the opinion of Gary Cottrell, the Chief Financial Officer of Ashberry Healthcare Limited who joined us on the Care Conversations Podcast by Care Launch "We are an aging population and therefore the demand for the services we offer is increasing, which are predominantly dementia focused." "The statistics are showing that dementia care is almost going to double in the next 5 years!" "So if you can get dementia right, there is a great opportunity there. But it has to be right, its not just paying lip service to say we are a dementia service." "We actually have to deliver and take into account all the things someone with dementia needs." "Dementia care isn't one size fits all. You have various levels of dementia, and its understanding that, and having the training of our staff to cope and deal with that is vital." Listen to the latest Care Conversation on YouTube or Spotify today. #care #carehomes #carehomemarketing

Systemic financial change and a shift towards sustained investment in preventative community-based care must be a priority if we are to improve outcomes for older people living with dementia. These are the key findings of our report published today in partnership with The Dunhill Medical Trust Medical and Alzheimer's Society. “Taking an outcomes based approach to improving care for older people with dementia and other needs” is based on extensive engagement with 5 service providers Marie Curie UK The Rainbow Foundation Shared Lives Plus Leicestershire County Council and Dementia Support each offering a different service or intervention designed to improve the lives of people living with dementia and their carers. The report further calls on funders, commissioners and service providers to: 📈Invest in flexible and personalised care models: Prioritise funding mechanisms that support longer term investment in adaptable care solutions. 🤝Promote equity in care: Ensure that underserved populations receive the care they need by supporting culturally adaptable care initiatives. 🔧Leverage existing resources: Enhance and scale current services through strategic partnerships and integration of new technologies. 🪴Support carers: Recognise the critical role of unpaid carers and allocate resources to sustain and expand respite services.
