❌ "This crisis in our health and social care system around the support we provide to dying people, can't be the reason for introducing assisted dying." Sam Royston, our Executive Director of Policy and Research, told MPs yesterday they need to ensure there is a proper plan in place to improve palliative care support for people at the end of life. 💬👇

Motivated by keeping fit and supporting Marie Curie, Rachel has taken part in the 5km Swimathon four times. "My connection to Marie Curie inspired me to train again after 11 years of not swimming as much as I used to. Swimming is so good for you physically and mentally. "In 2024, I completed Swimathon overseas, in Warsaw, Poland, where there is a special connection to Marie Curie. I was so pleased that now you can do it overseas and not just in the UK! "This kind of partnership is a brilliant way to promote the work of important charities, like Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK (CRUK)." 🏊 Join Swimathon at a pool near you on 28-30 March or choose virtual MySwimathon at a pool and time of your choice from 21 March - 6 April! 💭 Is technology making grieving processes easier? Here's 4 ways technology may help us with grief. 💻 Virtual funerals Online attendance at funerals is becoming increasingly popular. If a loved one lives in a different country or is too unwell to travel then joining virtually is a good alternative. 💛 Online groups Social media is full of grief and support groups. These are great places to share experiences and receive advice from people going through similar emotions. 📱 Video calls Video calling has enabled many people to speak to their dying loved one to say a final goodbye. Something they might not have been able to do in time without technology. 🤔 Grief bots (AI) Now this may not be for everyone. AI scientists have have started to develop grief bots, so using data from a person’s life to create an avatar of that person, the bereaved can message and receive responses from their loved one. Remember grief is different for everyone. You can find more information or support on our website: https://lnkd.in/dpkNxuN

"I hope to make the patient feel at peace and comfortable, respecting their values and their last wishes. It’s very important to personalise care, because everybody is different. For example, we might have a patient who loves to be in the garden, so we may move their bed outdoors so they can enjoy being in nature for a while." - Nurse Edwina

"Wes Streeting is right. No one should die in hospital when they don’t want or need to be there. The state of end of life care needs to change." 💔 Read more from Dr Sarah Holmes, our Chief Medical Officer and palliative care consultant: https://lnkd.in/eD99WwbS
