Pramila from Bandiguda, Odisha once found it difficult to make ends meet by selling seasonal fruits. After joining Rise Against Hunger India’s farming training program, she gained knowledge about organic farming and the concept of a kitchen garden. Upon completing her training, we provided her with seeds and compost to start her own garden. Today, her efforts have flourished beyond the kitchen garden. She has expanded her activities to her farmland, successfully cultivating a variety of organic vegetables. We are happy to see Pramila’s journey toward becoming self-reliant. #RiseAgainstHunger #RiseTogether #OrganicFarming #WomenInAgriculture

"Knowledge is power." -Kofi Annan(Former secretary-General of UN) As we move to the peak of Kharif in Punjab, CIPT facilitates a Farmers Extension Camp on Water Efficient Agricultural Technologies and Practices for Paddy with farmers of Khanoura cooperative society in Nabha block, Patiala. Dr. Buta Singh Romana, retired extension specialist from Punjab Agricultural University, shares his expertise on a variety of topics, including the optimal use of chemical fertilizers, identifying nutrient deficiencies, managing weeds and pests, and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. The camp is attended by 140 farmers from the cooperative society, under the active participation of the Sarpanch (village head man) of the Khanoura village, Dr. Gurdeep Kaur. Additionally, the Secretary of Khanoura cooperative society, Amrik Singh, as well as the Secretary of Todarwal cooperative society, Gursant Singh, Jindalpur cooperative society, Harveer Singh, and Matorda cooperative society, Sukhdev Singh, were also present at the event. One-on-one interaction with experts offered solutions regarding the current challenges affecting the farmers including the outbreak of southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus (SRBSDV), which causes stunted growth in paddy crops, as well as seasonal issues such as weed proliferation, insect infestation and various plant diseases. Farmers were satisfied with gaining relevant knowledge. Noticing their enthusiasm about the camp, the secretary of the Khanoura Cooperative Society requested the CIPT team to organise similar camps twice each season. Such initiatives will ensure that farmers receive the latest updates from Punjab Agricultural University, along with pertinent information on dairy science, agronomy, and horticulture at a single platform. The exchange of knowledge and expertise at extension camps contribute largely to kickstart the promotion of sustainable farming practices within an agricultural community in any region. These extension camps are usually followed up with intensive in-person follow-ups, digital peer learning support and Mohalla meetings facilitated by the Field Cadres (community resource persons). At CIPT, we wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of knowledge. Our commitment continues to empower farmers through various outreach initiatives designed to share knowledge and enhance their capabilities. Let us know what other outreach strategies have been successful in the Green Revolution belt? #CIPTLive #Patiala #Farmers #knowledge #CIPT #Farmers #camp #information #savewater #Watermanagement #paddy #society #cooperatives #Punjab

Across 19 villages in Birbhum – an aspirational district in West Bengal – 365 families are now cultivating their own nutritious organic food through the PwC India Foundation’s nutri garden intervention. Apart from helping improve nutrition intake for families in the region, these community gardens act as a source of income for the households. The families involved are seeing tangible benefits – with many now earning an additional INR 1,000 per month from the sale of their produce. And the benefits go beyond just financial – sustainable farming practices like mulching, relay cropping and pitcher irrigation are helping improve both the health of the land and the resilience of the community! #TogetherWeFuture #TogetherWeSolve #PwCIF

For ten years, the 300 families of Meppadam village have enjoyed a unique benefit: free, fresh vegetables. This isn't a store handout – it's the result of a remarkable community initiative called Samridhi Janakeeya. Samridhi Janakeeya, a vibrant group of over 200 residents, has transformed agriculture in their village. They cultivate a 12.5-acre plot in Peringottukuris Chulanur Meppadam, where women and children play an active role in every step, from sowing seeds to harvesting. There's no profit motive here. Everyone contributes their time and takes home only what their families need. The land itself is a testament to their collective spirit – some members contribute their own plots. Samridhi's bounty overflows with a variety of vegetables, including lentils, pumpkins, cucumbers, okra, chillies, eggplants, gourds, spinach, and more. They even source their seeds locally from VFPCK, Mannuthi, and Pollachi, ensuring a sustainable approach. This inspiring journey began in 2014 when a group of 50 villagers, responding to a government initiative, started a small vegetable garden within a five-acre paddy field. Over time, their passion grew, attracting more residents and expanding the farmland. Today, Samridhi is a thriving collective, proving that community spirit can cultivate a healthier future. Last year alone, they harvested a staggering 22 tons of vegetables, and this year, they're aiming for an even bigger bounty! #CommunityGarden #SustainableAgriculture #Village #LocalHarvest #ZeroWaste #Kerala [Meppadam, Kerala, Inspiration, Samridhi Janakeeya, Community initiative, Vegetable farming, Sustainable farming]
