#Boeing investors are clearly voting without any data. At all. Here is the performance of Dave Calhoun relative to 22,000 other executives/directors who have sat on multiple boards in the last 7 years: - 55% of directors/executives outperform Calhoun for TSR - 72% of directors/executives have added more market cap to their companies than Calhoun - 97% of directors/executives have generated their returns with LESS controversies and safety issues than Calhoun - Only 12% of directors have more tenure than Calhoun Yet, accountability looks like this: - 77% of investors approve re-electing Calhoun to the board (he would have stayed CEO even if he was removed from the board) - 62% of investors approved a substantial pay raise for Calhoun - Only 66% of investors approved re-electing David Joyce, who was the chair of the safety committee - but only added to the board in 2021 https://lnkd.in/eXggUHMR

Today I visited one of my major project sites - one that’s about to reach completion, to finalise the documentation and handover. The project started in 2019 and was scheduled for completion by 2021. Why so late? Pick your reason: scope increases by over 100%, a limited Client budget to deliver, personnel clashes, Subcontractor default, floods, fires, a pandemic, insurance claims, legal disputes, loss of core team, defects - you name it. Today I find myself reflecting on the fact that this project - which has caused me so much frustration, headache, heartache and some sleepless nights over the past half-decade, has taught me some pretty valuable lessons. Lessons on resilience, on accountability and team work. On balancing competing interests and personalities. How to compromise and define a common goal - and how to stick to your values when there isn’t one. A true masterclass in managing my thought, time, energy and mental state. Amidst the hard times though, we did have a few sweet wins in there. Another great lesson: celebrate the wins. On paper, it has been - by all accounts - a terrible project. But from a personal and professional growth perspective, it was a tremendous one. And as I limp towards the finish line, I find myself grateful for the experience. No matter how you cut it though, I’m truly delighted to see the end of it.
