Reading labels on processed foods is even more important than for fresh foods for a few reasons: 🍬Processed foods often contain a surprising amount of added sugar, sodium, and unhealthy fats. These may not be readily apparent from the taste or even the front of the packaging. Labels help you identify these and make informed choices. 🍭Processed foods often contain preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, and other additives to extend shelf life or enhance taste. While generally safe, some people may prefer to avoid them for health reasons or simply because they want to know exactly what they're consuming. Labels provide this transparency. 🚫Packaging can be misleading, with claims like "healthy" or "all-natural" that don't always reflect reality. Labels provide a more objective picture of the ingredients and nutrients. 🧂Sugar can come in many forms, and manufacturers may use sneaky wording to mask high sugar content. Labels reveal the amount of sugar (including added sugars) per serving. #TheMintEnfold #CulinaryNutritionist #ConsciousEating #WholesomeFoodChoices #MindfulEating #SustainableSnacking #NutritionJourney #RitikaAgarwal

All foods go through some form of processing. Processed foods are basically foods that have undergone processing methods like sorting, washing, peeling, milling, storing just to name a few. When it comes to processed foods, there are classifications. ✨Unprocessed foods:This processing level doesn’t change the nutritional content of the food. Eg cleaning, sorting etc. ✨Processed culinary ingredients- Foods are minimally processed by pressing, grinding, milling etc. e.g honey extracted from combs. ✨Processed foods: Over here food is processed to enhance flavour, texture and increase durability.. E.g flour. ✨Ultra-processed foods- These are the highly processed foods, with all the additives, preservatives, food colors etc. Ultra-processed foods have been known to have a lot of effects on our body that’s why it’s always adviced to minimize or reduce your intake of such foods. Don’t make them your staple. E.g soft drinks, cookies, cakes, and salty snacks. #processedfoods Photo credit: https://lnkd.in/dJWQwEht

This #HashTagHealthTipTuesday, we provide some tips to help identify whether foods are #ultraprocessed: 1. Check the ingredient list: Ultra-processed foods often contain long lists of ingredients, many of which may be unfamiliar or hard to pronounce. Look for additives like artificial sweeteners, flavour enhancers (e.g., MSG), preservatives, and colourants. 2. Look for refined ingredients: If the food contains refined sugars (e.g., high fructose corn syrup), refined flour, or hydrogenated oils, it's likely ultra-processed. These ingredients are stripped of nutrients during manufacturing. 3. Watch for food additives: Ingredients like emulsifiers, thickeners, stabilisers, and artificial flavourings are common in ultra-processed foods. These are added to enhance texture, shelf life, or taste but aren't in minimally processed foods. 4. Pre-packaged and ready-to-eat: Foods marketed as "convenience" items, such as instant noodles, frozen dinners, and packaged snacks, are typically ultra-processed and designed for quick consumption without much preparation. 5. Highly advertised, branded products: Ultra-processed foods are often heavily marketed and have attractive packaging. They might promote added vitamins or minerals, but these are typically added back in after processing stripped them out. #HealthyLiving #EatWholeFoods #NutritionMatters #ProcessedFoodAwareness #ChooseRealFood

Are you really eating healthy food ? While in my last post I mentioned how outside food are getting more and more unhealthy and full of chemicals. There is new wave of using word healthy in food products but are they really healthy ? With influencer like Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer) people are getting more aware about their food choices, we still need to make sure we don't get misguided by words used by brands. 1. Sugar Free - Check if it has other sugar alternative chemical harmfull for body 2. Fat Free, Trans Fat Free, Cholesterol free - Check what other oil alternative they are using , preservative etc 3. High Fiber 4. Multigrain 5. Natural And no 'Organic' doesn't mean healthy. Organic is very vague term and can be used for lot of unhealthy food as well. While you are cautious about what Oil you put in your vehicle, I think it's more important to know what food you are putting in your body. Eat Clean, Stay healthy.
