Think I it's all over? Not quite... The Euro's are off and running in Germany, and everyone's clutching their favourite beer as they will on their national teams. And everyone is looking for the extra spark of creativity to unlock the competition. So, if you are looking for something beyond the tradional 4-4-2 formation - then why not treat your tastebuds to a new beer that is serving up a unique fusion of Venezuelan and Nordic brewing styles which features our favourite insect as a key ingredient 🦗🍺 Named El Grillo, it's a Pale Ale which is a must-try for anyone looking to expand their craft beer horizons. El Grillo boasts a unique flavour profile, with hints of cricket and hibiscus - for a truly off-the-cuff beer experience. There is no doubt that this innovative 1-2 brew combination of traditional Nordic brewing techniques with the flair of South American insects is creating an unique off-pitch experience for beer lovers. Maybe it's time to cast aside the tried and tested, Gareth? The El Grillo formation might just be the kind of boundary pushing we've all been craving for. ⚽️🍺 Are you ready to experiment and try an insect beer? Monday Insights from HOPS (Isle of Man) Ever wonder how we keep our shelves stocked with the best picks? Here's a glimpse into our selection process: It starts with a tip-off from our industry insiders about the latest releases. But the real magic? It's in knowing the producers. Like this week's beer selection, it came straight from one of your suggestions. That's what we love – serving what you love. Take Glenmorangie's latest – it's now on the way because you've mentioned so often how much you enjoy it. We bet it's going to be a crowd-puller, and our other selections will keep you around for more. And lastly, we do our homework. If it's been around, we're digging into what others in the industry and the public are saying. That's our recipe for bringing you the best at Hops. And hey, what's your favorite drink or cigar? Craft beer, whisky, rum, gin, cider, wine, or cigar – we're always eager to know what catches your fancy. #isleofman #mondayinsights"

Last week we asked, which one of the following European cities does not provide the name to a type of speciality malt used in brewing? The answer is… Prague! Used in paler styles such as Vienna lager, Vienna malt (colour 6 – 9° EBC) is generally described as adding a subtle malt sweetness and toasty character to beer. In comparison, Munich malt is produced at slightly higher temperatures (colour 10 - 20° EBC, although darker Munich malts are available) and is known for imparting the rich malty and bread crust flavours expected in styles like Märzen. Both Munich and Vienna malts originated in Germany, historically used in bocks and dark lagers, although they are now proving a popular addition in a wide variety of craft beers. #IBDQuiz #brewing #malt

If you think about Ireland and Stout, it's impossible not to think of 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. But (as far as I know) Irish stouts are like the rockstars of the stout world (I am aware I might have opened the Pandora box and triggered a discussion among Stout fans). The story behind this type of beer dates back to the 1700s, when taxes were too high on malted barley, so Irish brewers, as a "solution" got creative and started using more roasted barley to get that dark color and roasty coffee/chocolate flavors. They also used a special yeast that keeps things clean and crisp so those roasty notes are more remarkable. Compared to other stouts, Irish stouts are typically drier and less sweet. They also have a smooth, creamy texture thanks to 𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗘𝗡 𝗚𝗔𝗦 (instead of CO2, as most beers), which creates that iconic Guinness "cloud" on your beer. So, if you're looking for a classic, roasty brew with a perfect balance of flavor and texture, raise a glass to the only Irish stout! Saying that... 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗦𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆! PS: Check this article recently published about the genetic analysis of 13 Guinness yeast strains, including historical and current production strains. Interestingly enough, they found a common ancestor that is distinct from other historical Irish brewing yeasts, and Guinness yeast strains are closely related to a common ancestor from 1903 at the Watling Lab. 👉 https://lnkd.in/etNYmJHD AI-generated image.

Think you know everything about beer? Think again! 🍻 We at The Mannheim Craft Beverage Company, are launching a new series called #BrewingFacts, dedicated to unraveling common misconceptions about beer and diving deep into the intricate world of brewing. For our first installment, we're tackling the widespread belief that dark beers are inherently stronger than their lighter counterparts. Contrary to popular belief, a beer's colour is simply a result of the roasting process used for the malt ingredients. Similarly, a lighter-colored beer doesn't necessarily mean lower alcohol content. The truth is, it's the skill and technique of the brewing process that truly dictates a beer's strength and alcohol by volume (ABV). Our brewers meticulously control factors like mash temperatures, yeast strains, and fermentation conditions to achieve the desired ABV, regardless of the beer's shade. Take our award-winning Weizenbock, for instance. This amber-hued beauty boasts a rich, malty flavor and an impressive 7% ABV, defying the notion that dark beers pack more punch. Conversely, our crisp and refreshing Helles Lager, with its brilliant straw-yellow hue, clocks in at a respectable 4.9% ABV. So, the next time you're tempted to judge a beer solely by its colour, remember – looks can be deceiving. It's the artistry and precision behind the brewing process that truly determines a beer's character and strength. Stay tuned for more fascinating #BrewingFacts as we continue to explore the captivating world of beer-making. Join us on this journey of discovery and let us quench your thirst for knowledge, one pint at a time! #mannheimcraftbrewery #BrewingFacts #CraftBeerLovers #nocrapontap

🌾 The Essential Role of Linalool in Brewing Belgian Wit-Style Beers 🌾 As brewers, we know that the magic of a perfect beer lies in the details. One of the often-overlooked yet crucial elements in crafting Belgian Wit-style beers is linalool, a compound found in coriander seeds. Linalool, a naturally occurring terpene, contributes significantly to the unique citrusy, floral, and spicy aroma profile that defines Belgian Wit beers. This compound enhances the sensory experience, adding depth and complexity to the brew, making each sip a refreshing journey. For brewers looking to elevate their Belgian Wit, understanding the role of linalool can be a game-changer. By carefully selecting and balancing coriander seeds in the brewing process, we can optimize the linalool content, bringing out the best in our beers. Cheers to innovation and the art of brewing! 🍻 #CraftBeer #BrewingScience #BelgianWit #Linalool #BeerLovers #CorianderSeeds
