🚨 Major Advancements in Offshore Wind Operations 🔊 The Offshore O&M teams of EDF Renouvelables entrusted our support to transport lightweight equipment between the offshore substation (OSS) and wind turbines of the Saint-Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm. MaDfly's expertise tailored a drone solution to meet these specific needs. During these flights significant milestones have been achieved: ✅ 66% time savings: 1 hour with a drone vs. 3 hours with a crew transfer vessel (CTV). ✅ Reduced fuel costs: Less CTV usage for a smaller carbon footprint. ✅ Enhanced safety: Lower risks in material transfers. We focused on risk analysis and coordination to ackling challenges like 🌐 Signal loss risks or 🛬 Blind landings on limited spaces. In Europe, there are between 350 to 400 crew transfer vessels (CTVs) catering to the fast-growing offshore wind sector. These vessels operate for approximately 250 days a year, consuming 1,500 litres of fuel daily. The retrofitting of diesel-powered CTVs with electric systems comes with a hefty price tag of £8 million per vessel, posing a significant challenge. Transitioning the entire fleet is not only costly but also technically challenging, with certain vessel types being more suitable for conversion than others. Adaptation to electric systems is considered on a case-by-case basis, with a focus on larger hulls for potential conversion.
