The heaviest cars in the 2023 registration statistics and all combustion engines.   kerb weight: 3472 kg Cadillac Escalade 3027 kg Mercedes Maybach 3002 kg Ineos Grenadier   Fortunately, all of them together only came to just over 1000 new registrations. Weight should definitely become more important, especially with regard to resources. The projected revenue is expected to range between 63 and 68 billion euros, down from 69.9 billion euros. ■Jürgen Rittersberger, the Chief Financial Office stated, "2024 will be an even more challenging year than 2023" and emphasized that it would be a transitional year for Audi. With increased competition, some concessions may need to be made to maintain market share. Furthermore, investments are on the rise. Audi's CEO Gernot Döllner remains committed to the company's transition away from internal combustion engines. ■Audi has set ambitious goals for the decade's end, aiming to sell as many electric vehicles as combustion engine vehicles, maintaining profitability. In 2023, only 9 percent of Audi's 1.9 million vehicles sold were fully electric. The comprehensive test, spanning 13 Chinese models from the last three years, demonstrated their technical capabilities to match European standards. Remarkably, all but two of the tested cars earned a full five-star rating in the crash test. Additionally, the Asian vehicles exhibited commendable performance in the avoidance test and stability program (ESP). In addition to the top positions in #Germany and the #UK, the #Corsa #Electric achieved second place in its segment in #Italy, the #Netherlands, #Portugal and #Austria. The #Mokka Electric was the front-runner in the #SUV B segment in the UK and took the silver medal in the B SUV segment in Germany, #Spain, #Poland and #Belgium. Opel and #Vauxhall sold a total of 125,000 light #commercial #vehicles #worldwide, which corresponds to growth of 26 percent compared to 2022. With around 17,000 Combo Electric, Vivaro Electric and Movano Electric units sold in the #European market (EU29), the brands secured a leading position in #electricvans. During my time in automobile development, I had to work for a long time to become quiet, to have no vibrations, to eliminate shift shocks, and to generate low-end torque. It worked not really well with the combustion engine. Now, with the electric motor and a 1-speed gearbox, we have basically solved these issues as a basis. Is it just me that doesn't understand Toyota or, as with e-mobility at all, do they simply want to do something differently so that they don't have to bend? Volkswagen Group continues towards an electric future with a €180 million investment. But the funds come with revised priorities. €120 million euros will be spent on electrification and digitization. Including developing the new Scalable Systems Platform, SSP, which will replace the fist-generation MEB platforms in use now. #battery manufacturer PowerCo and the joint venture with Chinese #oem XPENG will also receive funds. But €80 million euros are dedicated to the continued development of internal combustion engines and ICE-powered vehicles. #volkswagen expects to make and sell 30% of their total production volume as ICE by 2030. ■Bentley Shifts Focus to Partially Electric Vehicles, Delays Full EV Transition to 2033■ Bentley has adjusted its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, extending its timeline to become a fully electric car manufacturer from 2030 to 2033. During this extended transition period, the luxury automaker plans to prioritize plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as the primary drivetrain. Bentley intends to invest "hundreds of millions" more in PHEVs to support this initiative. Following Aston Martin's footsteps, Bentley is also slowing down its shift towards electrification. However, this delay not only affects the rollout of its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) model but also revises the entire electrification roadmap. Initially outlined in November 2020 as part of its "Beyond100" strategy, Bentley aimed to transition its entire model lineup to battery-electric vehicles by 2030. According to reports from the British portal "Autocar," the transition is now slated for completion in 2033. Bentley's CEO Adrian Hallmark, who spearheaded the original "Beyond100" strategy with the 2030 combustion engine phase-out, views the decision to invest in additional plug-in hybrids as an integral part of the existing plan, rather than a step backward. Having already postponed the launch of its first BEV model from 2025 to 2026, Bentley now targets "late 2026" for its debut. This model will be entirely new, while the subsequent four announced BEVs are expected to be electric successors to the existing Continental GT, Continental GTC, Flying Spur and Bentayga models.
