This #MLKDay, we celebrate and reflect on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by recognizing his activism for democracy and voting rights – issues that are just as important today as they were in the 1960s. At Welcoming America, we envision communities where all residents — including immigrants — are empowered to fully participate in civic life, have access to democratic spaces, and shape community priorities and policies. Two core pillars of our Welcoming Standard are Equitable Access and Civic Engagement. When immigrant voices are uplifted in the democratic decision-making process, local governments and community organizations can better address demographic disparities and gaps in services. Reflecting on MLK's vision of a multiracial democracy, you can explore the Welcoming Standard to advance Civic Engagement and Equitable Access in your community. By adopting this standard, your community upholds the welcoming and democratic values MLK advocated for. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gPmG-f_v

🗣️ We have a dream, that through just, correct, and ethical means, all global conflicts can come to an end, for the sake of humanity. 🫶 Martin Luther King advocated for racial equality, justice, and the end of racial segregation and discrimination. As human rights practitioners, we must recognize that all forms of inequality, breakdowns in justice systems, and discrimination contribute to worsening the issue of modern slavery. #GFEMS #MLKday #NationalHumanTraffickingPreventionMonth

The General Assembly recognizes that social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security within and among nations and that, in turn, social development and social justice cannot be attained in the absence of peace and security, or the absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms. 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬: How MLK Jr. Sculpted Our Cities. "If you can't fly, then run. If you can't run, then walk. If you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝." - Martin Luther King Jr. This philosophy of relentless progress resonates deeply with me and has had major impact in today’s commercial real estate (CRE) world. 🏙️ Fair Housing Act of 1968: A week after King’s assassination, this pivotal act was passed, combating housing discrimination and reshaping the CRE sector. His advocacy for fair housing laid the foundation for equitable real estate practices, ensuring that the industry moved forward with integrity and inclusivity. 🌆 Urban Development: King’s pursuit of justice fueled urban revitalization efforts, especially in areas marred by racial segregation. His impact transcends beyond civil rights to influence how we reimagine and invest in our urban landscapes. 💼 Economic Equality: King’s fight for economic parity shed light on disparities in commercial opportunities. As we honor MLK Jr.'s legacy, let's reflect on how his vision continues to inspire and shape the CRE industry. His message of progress, against all odds, is a powerful reminder of the role we play in driving equitable growth and development. 👇 How do you see MLK Jr.'s influence in your industry? Let us consider the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr. on International Social Justice Day: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." This stirring declaration serves as a reminder that the struggle for justice is an international struggle. Whether it be systematic injustice, discrimination, or violations of human rights, injustice erodes the foundation of society everywhere. We must stand united, advocate for the marginalized, and strive to create a world where fairness and equality prevail. Let's use this day to renew our commitment to social justice and work towards a future where everyone's rights and dignity are respected." #makeadifference #humanrights #socialjustice

Stepped Care Solutions pays tribute to the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity continues to resonate across generations. At a Medical Committee for Human Rights Convention in 1966, Dr. King said: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman.” Guided by our principles, Stepped Care Solutions believes that social justice should be the driving force behind an effective care system. Although systemic and societal change won’t happen overnight, at the heart of our SC2.0 model is a proactive commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that intentionally addresses injustices within current systems of care. In honour of MLK Jr., let’s persist in our efforts to eliminate barriers and ensure accessible, flexible, culturally safe mental health care for all. #MLKDay #SCS #WellBeingEverywhere

On #MLK Day, we're reminded of how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., leader of the civil rights movement, played a pivotal role in advancing racial equality in America. Today, racial justice and equity organizations continue this crucial work and remain on the frontlines to achieve and sustain an equitable future. In July 2020, in response to the heightened visibility of racial injustice, MacKenzie Scott gifted $587 million to racial justice and equity organizations, 91% of which were run by leaders of color. Through Panorama's peer learning community, 13 U.S.-based racial justice and equity organizations met to build community through dialogue and learn from one another’s experience as they managed the influx of funding to advance racial justice and equity. Read what these nonprofit leaders recommend for shifting funding practices toward #equity and how to encourage funders to drive transformative change for #RacialJustice. https://bit.ly/3TYU1Oz
