In The Making... Every year, the people on our beautiful planet discard 2.12 BILLION TONNES of stuff. Why don't we value these items more? If we were to understand more about what went into each product - the time people spent designing, developing, crafting items, or even working in non-fancy factories on a production line. Or the time it took for the planet to grow, nurture or create those materials we use to create them, as well as the people who risk their lives to extract these materials, the people who care for the trees we fell and everyone involved between there and the factories? If we understood the hard work by both people and nature, would we think twice about discarding them so readily? We have had such fascinating conversations in the curation of this exhibition as part of Material Matters 2024, starting next Wednesday 18th September. We've asked our handpicked exhibitors, commercial manufacturing companies of varying scales, to peel back the polished facade of their brands and tell us their real stories. Because we believe, that if you know how large companies create jobs sustaining whole communities, prevent traditional craftmanship from being lost from a region, or invest in products which prevent ill health, then maybe people will want to look after that product, reuse it, and save it from waste. Please join us, read the stories from our exhibitors, including Florim Ceramiche, MARK Product | Certified B Corp, Modus | B Corp™, Arper and many more and hopefully learn something about commercial manufacture that might make you think or design a bit differently. 18th-21st September, Bargehouse (behind the Oxo Tower) tp bennett Christopher Webb Phil Towle Alex Webb
Explore the journey behind commercial products at this year’s Material Matters Fair, 18-21 September. We are thrilled to partner with The Furniture Practice to present In The Making, a curated exhibition within Room 12 at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, during London Design Festival. This exhibition will explore the ever-evolving relationship between materials, geography, people, and supply chains in the commercial sector. Designed and curated by tp bennett’s sustainability team in collaboration with TFP, In The Making examines the intricate details behind products from thirteen commercial furniture and interior brands, revealing the components, materials, and craftsmanship involved. A series of narrative zones will highlight the dedication of both humans and nature in bringing these products to market, encouraging discussions and fostering a deeper appreciation for how these items come to life and how we can value them for years to come. At the heart of the exhibition is a space for reflection and storytelling, which features demonstrations, inspiration sessions, workshops and presentations. Alongside this space is a festival bar created in partnership with Smile Plastics, showcasing the potential of waste materials. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see, learn, and connect with suppliers, makers, and industry friends. Entry to the fair is free for trade, but advance registration is essential, find out more here: https://lnkd.in/e9UH5tt8 Exhibitors include: Arper, Camira x SAS, Florim Ceramiche, Fredericia Furniture, Humanscale, MARK Product | Certified B Corp x Bisley Furniture, Modus | B Corp™, Normann Copenhagen, Solus, Reddie, Smile Plastics, SURU, and Atrium #MaterialMatters #LondonDesignFestival #InTheMaking #DesignExhibition

We all know that plants offer a myriad of benefits to humans, that's why we love to fill our spaces with them. However, scientific research has demonstrated that plants require specific quantities and qualities of light distinct from those needed for our own daily activities. Only when plants get enough of the right light, can they soak up lots of CO2, which helps people feel less stressed and more focused indoors. Therefore, prioritizing the well-being of plants through appropriate lighting makes us folks feel better and keeps the whole environment in good shape. That's why Lumina is a must-have. This is an innovative lighting system crafted by Robonica Srl for Progetto CMR. Designed to elevate the well-being of both residential and professional environments, Lumina seamlessly integrates with botanical elements, enhancing the therapeutic properties of greenery. It's Casambi-controlled, of course. Robonica SRL was in fact the recipient of this year's Casambi Award for Best Product for its Linfa Desk Light, so you can count on Lumina's top-notch quality and performance too. As part of Milan Design Week, Progetto CMR has transformed its premises into a vibrant hub celebrating art and design, including the Lumina. Go check it out! https://lnkd.in/eJvnEed
