As a criminologist and health services researcher, Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium (RGVRC) Affiliate Scholar Lauren A. Magee has spent the last decade working to understand the emotional and social effects of nonfatal shootings, as these incidents occur twice as often as firearm-related deaths. In a new blog incorporating gun violence survivors' voices, Magee details the myriad ways survivors pick themselves up after being shot and how communities can better support them in their recovery. https://lnkd.in/ecnWkRpN

We are so proud to see CSAS being used to incredible effect by Lewis Basford, MSt (Cantab), BSc (Hons), CMgr MCMI and the rest of the hard-working Op Atlas team at the Metropolitan Police. "It paints a picture that's easy for us as investigators, but also when it goes to court for a jury to see, for a judge to see, in a way that makes sense and takes the stress off the victim..." Watch the video below to see how CSAS has become a powerful digital witness for victims of stalking and harassment. We hope this approach will help many other teams across the UK committed to tackling VAWG. #TechForGood | #VAWG | #DigitalForensics | #CommunicationsData | #LawEnforcement https://lnkd.in/e4u8pJsh

FIPI researchers Ginny McCarthy, MPH, MDiv, and Erin Wright Kelly, DrPH, MA, attended the HAND IN HAND MULTICULTURAL CENTER gun violence forum this past weekend in Springfield, Missouri. The center brought together four different minority groups to hear concerns on gun violence. The forum conversations were guided based on a project FIPI facilitated through the Missouri Foundation for Health. The aim of the study was to support two Missouri communities to develop tailored data collection methods and tools used to facilitate community conversations to understand how local community members perceive firearm injury and violence and identify ways in which the communities may collectively prevent firearm injury and death in the future. KY3 Inc. (KYTV) news interviewed Ginny about the study and the forum. "The point of the conversation today is to say, 'This is what we found across groups, this is what we found by groups, and what can we do with that information?'" Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are often working upstream to address root causes of injury and violence. If you are not already doing so, it is a great idea to collaborate with a HBCU in your area to plan, implement and enhance your injury and violence prevention program. Check out a few ideas for ways you can partner below!
