Emcee. Media Trainer. Public speaking trainer. Communications consultant. Mayor of Hootville Communications. Est 1999.
As an extension of Hootville's 25th birthday celebration I'm giving myself away in the form of a FREE KEYNOTE PRESENTATION. Is it my low self-esteem? (Who knows? Who cares?) I have six or so keynotes in my quiver but the one I’m offering free is: How To Cult: Inspiring Irrational Devotion which I describe on the Talkville website thus: Why do some brands, causes and people inspire obsessive devotion while their competitors fail to set pulses racing? Cult brands enjoy higher profits, influence, queues around the block and constant media attention. Brett looks at the key characteristics of cult brands and shows you how to create your own. (Use this for good, not evil.) This rollicking keynote is filled with real world examples and stories from brands you know and many you don’t. Brett's scope is global, drawing from retail, hospitality, apparel, politics, nations, the arts and some very special individuals. This is designed for leaders, marketers, salesfolk, fundraisers, business development professionals - people who are concerned with their brands and the impact they make. As always it is fun, energetic and challenging. Here’s my demands: a good size audience of the right people in a suitable venue (not a lightless boardroom) for me to video the proceedings. (This will be organized by me.) Oh – I need a willingness by you and your people to provide some on-camera testimonials. Interested? Get in touch: 0414 713 802. https://lnkd.in/gUWdrSS3

Companies often invest immense energy into "beating the competition". But in reality, it's competition that pushes the market forward and drives everyone to perform better. When you have a strong vision for the future, competition becomes just another factor to consider - it might make you adjust your path slightly, but it won't change your ultimate goal. So, let's celebrate the successes of our competitors too, with some good old-fashioned freneminess! 💐 💐 #Shield #GlobalRelay #Behavox #HappyAnniversary #Competition #Marketing #Innovation #CommunicationsCompliance
People say it's a dog-eat-dog world out there, but we don't think it should be. So, when we heard that Global Relay and Behavox were celebrating big anniversaries this year, we did the neighborly thing and sent flowers! Here’s what we learned:

I spoke with almost 15+ people last evening and finally confirmed the date, time and venue! We're doing our NoAgendaCoffee (NAC) meetup in the next few days. It's an invite-only event, and if you're interested in being invited, kindly fill this form below. If you're wondering what NAC - NoAgendaCoffee is, read further. It's an invite-only event, where I invite a curated set of people to have Coffee together! A Coffee time, with No Agenda, seriously! 😛 One thing that I can reveal is - it's going to be more exciting than our previous NAC meetups that have happened so far. Can't spill the beans, as I'm reserving it for your Coffee on Table! Because, what happens in NAC, stays in NAC! Come and witness it yourselves! Submit your interest here: https://lnkd.in/g3v5yinZ I'll send the invites with more details about the exact date, venue and timings. Comment "NAC" to this post, and increase your chance of being invited at first. Tag someone and bring them along with you, for a surprise bonus for sure! #NoAgendaCoffee #NACMeetups #Network #Exposure #INEA #gsthina PS: This one's exclusively for undergrad college students - If you're a working professional still interested in meeting some college students, we can arrange it in some ways. Marketing and communications professional, bringing a strong work ethic, a sprinkle of levity, and an appreciation for collaboration to the table.
Can we talk about giveaway items — swag, tchotchke, branded stuff? Have you ever received something at a conference or event that you truly enjoyed or found clever (aka didn't toss out immediately)? Or maybe you've brainstormed some creative ideas at your organization? Or perhaps you're of the opinion that it's all just junk and a waste of time and resources? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Money Squirrel 🐿️ - protect your biz with an automated passive income | 2023 Technology Pioneer Award Winner
Friday I felt like I'd gone back to school for the day. I managed to nab a ticket to Hotbed's Founders Camp, a full day jam packed full of speakers and nuggets. Here's my takeaways: ✅ Miguel McKelvey reminded me of the art of forcing yourself out of the social wallflower so many of us fall back on, to breaking that social anxiety - what's the worst that could happen if you walk over and introduce yourself to someone at an event? ✅ His second point that really stood out was practicing the high conflict conversations NOW - go into the hard things earlier and often. If you practice them early, they won't be as daunting or difficult when the ones that matter do come up. ✅ Stella Smith illustrated how best to leverage our networks (if you meet someone interesting, follow up and then *action* it - email them to go for a coffee). ✅ She's also living proof of being clinical in your execution - our own mindset is so key. ✅ Watching the panels, speakers and then the demos at the end, I was reminded over and over of the importance of good delivery - I'm actively working on this with Pascalle and I know how much I need it! The organisers ran my favourite part of the day, like a quick-fire round of 25 tips in under 25 mins. My personal faves are: ✅ Speed wins ("fail fast") ✅ MVP = change this from minimum viable product to minimum *valuable* product ✅ Focus on the one thing you'd bet the house on ✅ Pitch with passion and energy, always ✅ Validate customers actually want to *buy* the product ✅ Demonstrate the "hair on fire" problem ✅ Pitch the vision & where you're going (not where you are now and where you've come from) ✅ Don't be humble (what a terrifying, daunting one!) I also seem to have forgotten the skill of just sitting and absorbing. I love to learn, I'm a knowledge sponge, but sitting still all day really taxed me. I'm so glad I stayed for the demos at the end, the pitches and the decks were really slick and great to learn from. Thanks again Neda Sahebelm of keshty for sharing this event, it wasn't even on my radar until you did. I took a whole bunch of other notes so my to do list for March is about to grow quite a bit. Better get to it!
