How prepared can you be for a cyberattack? It's a hard question to answer and you'll never truly know how much is enough until you experience an attack. It's therefore vital to ensure you have appropriate measures in place at all times. In the past year, 39% of UK businesses have reported cyberattacks or security breaches - this equates to 2.39 million attacks. It’s therefore no surprise that cybercrime costs the UK up to £4.6 billion annually. And yet, according to the UK government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey in 2021, only 23% of UK businesses have a formal written policy on cybersecurity. This kind of apathy to cybersecurity is what leaves many businesses susceptible to attacks. But the real question is not whether you should have a cybersecurity system, but rather how you equip your company for a possible cyberattack. There are some clear steps that you can take to do this, but working with a cybersecurity company (such as OfficeAnyplace Ltd) you can access a wealth of knowledge and expertise, as well additional perks such as real-time monitoring. And speaking of expert knowledge, we are huge advocates of adopting a Zero-Trust security approach. If you liken cybersecurity to a house, many traditional cybersecurity methods can be likened to locking the doors and windows. Zero-Trust goes one step further and ensures there’s a lock on every drawer, utensil, cupboard and beyond. Whether your company is well-equipped for a cyberattack or not ultimately comes down to how much consideration you have put into ensuring you have a strong cybersecurity system in place. As with owning a car, the level of insurance and cover that you have will influence your protection in the case of an accident. The same principle applies to your company: the level of cyber security that you have will determine how equipped your company is for a cyberattack. Want to find out more? There's been a lot of chatter lately about cybersecurity, and I stumbled across an article that really struck a chord with me. It highlights a crucial point: cybersecurity is not just a concern for Fortune 500 companies. Small businesses are increasingly becoming targets for cyber threats, and the implication is many are still unprepared to tackle this reality. Here are some key takeaways from the article: - Growing Threats: Cybercrime is evolving, and small businesses often lack the resources or expertise to fend off attacks effectively. - Shift in Mindset: It’s high time for businesses—regardless of size—to adopt a proactive approach to cybersecurity, treating it as a fundamental component of their operations. - Awareness and Training: Employees need ongoing training to recognize and respond to threats. Cybersecurity is everyone's responsibility, not just the IT department's. - Adaptation Over Time: Just like other aspects of business strategy, cybersecurity approaches must adapt and evolve to keep pace with emerging threats. I encourage everyone, especially small business owners, to read this article and reflect on their cybersecurity strategies. How prepared are you for a potential attack? What steps can you take today to bolster your defenses? It's a discussion worth having. Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences on how you're managing cybersecurity in your business! https://lnkd.in/g3WXZcjp

In today's digital landscape, every business, big or small, is a target for cyber threats. A recent article highlights the startling rise in cyberattacks against small businesses, with statistics showing that they’re just as vulnerable as the larger corporations they often admire. For example, 46% of all cyber breaches affect businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees, and a staggering 61% of small and medium-sized businesses were targeted in 2021 alone. An inspiring story comes from a small business owner who recently invested in basic cybersecurity measures after a near-miss with a phishing attack. This proactive approach not only safeguarded their operations but also strengthened customer trust. It's proof that awareness can lead to empowerment. The key takeaway? Cybersecurity isn’t just an IT issue; it’s a foundational element of business resilience. Small businesses should not assume they are too small to be attacked—prevention starts with taking the threat seriously, understanding the risks, and implementing protective measures. I'd love to hear your thoughts—what steps have you taken to protect your business or what proactive measures have worked for you? Let's share our stories and learn from one another. https://lnkd.in/e2SFZdSb

#cybersecurity So this cyber security stuff. I heard a stat from an #insurancebroker last year that whilst not a surprise, was also, I think, a good indicator about the level of #business interest. ❗ Less than 10% of all UK business have cyber insurance ❗ It follows then, that less than 10% of all UK business takes an active interest in mitigating the risks posed by using a computer, storing data on it, and crucially, connecting it to the internet. Ouch. But why is that the case? It could be one or more of the following: 💡 It's viewed as an IT problem (it's not, it's a business risk) - so therefore is the IT teams/MSP's problem. Sure, they can help, but they can't accept business risk on your behalf. 💡 The perception of being sold some fancy, expensive thing, that may or may not work. Yes - there are those out there that have reputation for doing that. Always ask why, and get the supplier/vendor to explain what risks your business faces, that the 'solution' will mitigate. 💡 The classic 'Never had a problem, we are too small/it won't happen to us' thought process. This one I hear a lot, usually followed by - 'well we did have a few email accounts hacked into, and some fake invoices sent, or some money transferred...' - This is business email compromise, otherwise known as a cyberattack, probably because someone responded to a phishing email... That or 'the server was down for a few days due to a hardware fault'. Actually that is an Information Security incident - specifically, Availability of Information. 💡 The real reason I think cyber doesn't get the love and attention it deserves? It's boring, and doesn't add anything but a cost to the bottom line. Or at least that is the perception. ❗ But how much is the profit margin going to suffer if you can't deliver your product or service to your customers? ❗ How much is your brand and reputation worth? ❗ How much might the regulatory fines be? Anyone think of other reasons the majority of business doesn't appropriately mitigate #cyberrisk? We are working on some easy to consume risk mitigation plans which will be available on our website soon, and we'll also start publishing some useful guides on our LinkedIn page - so head on over and give us a follow.
