The Alberta Motor Transport Association's driverpathways.com website contains a quiz; give it a shot to see what sorts of driving jobs are more likely to be a good fit for you. It's not the definitive guide for all things truck/bus employment - there's far too much variation between similar employers to be able to say, for example, that you'll ALWAYS be paid by the route as a school bus driver or NEVER going to be on call as a local delivery driver. Instead, we make generalisations about different driving careers to help inform people who are curious about and exploring the industry. It can be frustrating to search for jobs in an unfamiliar industry, so we created this tool to help people search strategically. Employers can benefit from this site, too. Carriers often compete more for drivers than they do freight; wouldn't you want to know what sort of lifestyle is offered by other professional driving sectors to see how your job offers stack up? Dispatch retention. Do we have any data on the average employment duration of a dispatcher? Why are so many companies turning towards 'revolving door' policies on hiring and retention? How does it make sense to put in resources to train somebody on company policies, workflow, systems and etc., just to have them leave after a few months and then repeat the process? Seems like we are looking to retain everything, except for a solid crew in dispatch operations. What are the steps in ensuring your dispatch operations team is satisfied in their day-to-day? You Deserve A Decent Job At A Decent Company. In today's trucking sector, drivers are beginning to leave trucking firms and, in some cases, their entire careers if the job isn't fulfilling them. They have the right to proper follow up driver training, fair treatment, enough salary, and respect. There are trucking businesses that prioritise their drivers' health and welfare, and they have established settings in which truckers feel respected. These are the firms most likely to recruit and retain outstanding drivers. This helps the driver, and hence the industry as a whole. As a professional truck driver, you should never assume you have to settle for your current employment. There is always something greater out there waiting for you.
