Meet Barry, a veteran now working on the North East Link tunnels. After serving in the Australian Army as an infantry soldier between 2006 and 2013, he transferred to the Army Reserve in Melbourne which included a short stint at Simpson Barracks. His service included international duty in East Timor, as well as assignments closer to home such as Operations Bushfire Assist, COVID Assist, and Storm Assist. After leaving the Army, Barry reached out to Ironside Resources and the Inclusive Jobs team at Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C who aligned his skills and experience with a role on the North East Link tunnels as a diesel clerk. North East Link will create 12,000 jobs throughout Melbourne’s north east, with priority jobseekers including veterans to fill 1000 positions on the North East Link tunnels. Good Morning & Happy Veterans Day! Honoring military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day or Armed Forces Day. Veterans Day celebrates all United States military veterans. However, Memorial Day is set aside for remembering the men and women who died while serving. Additionally, Armed Forces Day recognizes the men and women currently serving in the United States military. So, why do we celebrate on November 11th? The answer takes us back to the end of World War I when an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. A year later, in 1919, the United States commemorated this moment as Armistice Day for the first time, filled with solemn pride and gratitude for victory. It wasn’t until 1954, after the massive mobilization of servicemen in World War II and the Korean War, that the day was renamed Veterans Day to honor all American veterans, wherever and whenever they served. Insurance Office of America supports veterans and hires vets, I’m a perfect example. Let us serve those who have served message or email me today (or tomorrow) and I’ll put together an insurance program that will warm your heart - or at the very least so you can have the peace of mind knowing that you are paying the right amount for the right coverage - Stephen.Kingsmore@IOAUSA.com or https://lnkd.in/eWAhDvkt REMEMBER - IF YOU OWN IT, I INSURE IT and Celebrate Every Day! #veteransday #ioausa #ioagency #homeownersinsurance #carinsurance #autoinsurance #jewelryinsurance #smallbusinessinsurance #generalliability #boatinsurance #condoinsurance #landlord #rentersinsurance As an agent with Insurance Office of America, I can shop your personal or business insurance with dozens of different companies to find you the best coverage at a good price. Reaching out to specialist recruiters that specifically deal with Military Leavers and Veterans! At First Military Recruitment we understand your service, and exactly what you offer to the workforce! 📰 Breaking news for employers participating in DOD SkillBridge and for any transitioning service members (Marine Corps) just announced: 🗞️The U.S. Marine Corps just announced cuts to the allotted time Marines can participate in the DOD SkillBridge program which will have an impact on service members as well as employers participating in DOD SkillBridge. 💭While this only impacts the Marine Corps for the time being, U.S. military branches continue to struggle with recruitment and retention and it may not be long before other branches follow suit. For any service members considering transitioning out in the next year or so, I would recommend connecting with these awesome veterans and employers that are tagged below who frequently volunteer their time to help service members ensure a smooth transition. Bonus points since most of them are actively hiring 😎. Military Holidays There are three distinct holidays for honoring military personnel and all three are different in who they honor. Some people get confused, so let’s review them and keep it simple: Armed Forces Day 3rd Saturday in May Honors all military personnel now serving Memorial Day Last Monday in May Honors all military personnel who died while serving this nation Veterans Day November 11th Honors those who have served in the Armed Forces Many Americans and businesses try to piggy-back other things onto these holidays. For example, on Memorial Day you’ll find people coming up to veterans and saying, “Thanks for your service.” Please remember, Memorial Day isn’t about anybody’s service. Veterans cringe when they hear this as most vets have lost somebody in combat or training and that phrase, although said innocently and sincerely, is cringeworthy to most vets. It’s not about a mattress sale. It’s not about honoring first responders. It’s not about the first day of summer. Or barbecue. It’s not about anything except honoring those men and women - and the families - who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation! That’s it. Don’t add anything else to it. Its simple, but it’s also a somber event and there’s nothing happy about it, so please refrain from saying “Happy Memorial Day.” All three of these events are just single days, not months. So let’s give them the undivided attention each day deserves and focus on what exactly the day is set aside for…spend time with your families and share the meaning of the day with the younger members. Explain what the day is all about. There are many ways to celebrate and/or honor these folks: Visit a military cemetery on Memorial Day, a veterans home on Veterans Day, or send a care package to deployed troops on Armed Forces Day. Our organization is amazing when it comes to honoring these holidays. From placing flags on graves to setting up Missing Man tables to remember the POW-MIA personnel, we enjoy wide support! Many companies just use these days as off-days. Please share these three days with your family and friends! National Cemetery Andersonville, GA
