This Excecutive summary of from the international energy agency is a worthwile read if you're in the sector. "Grids risk becoming the weak link of clean energy transitions". "[ ] the strongest barriers relate to public acceptance of new projects and the need for regulatory reform. Here, policy makers can speed up progress on grids by enhancing planning, ensuring regulatory risk assessments allow for anticipatory investments and streamlining administrative processes." https://lnkd.in/eVTBPNp7

With geopolitical tensions mounting and concerns surrounding energy security and affordability at odds with decarbonisation pressures, we've been focusing on Europe’s energy policy and regulation outlook for 2024 and beyond. It is clear that the sector requires a nuanced approach to policy-making that combines subsidies, tax breaks, and supportive regulations to foster the development of supply chain and manufacturing infrastructures crucial for the energy transition. Here's a quick look at some of the headlines making waves in this space over the last few weeks: https://lnkd.in/esgVea_f #energypolicy #energytransition #energysector #upstream #oilandgas #esgpressures #energytrilemma #naturalgas

Here’s a reminder that interested parties still have one week to respond to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities’ consultation on “Review of Large Energy Users connection policy”. The consultation proposes the introduction of considerations relating to greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency, into the policy around the connection of load/demand to the Irish electricity system. This will be a huge change for what had previously been a lightly regulated part of the sector. Data centres are called out for special mention, although the consultation will potentially have a very significant effect on the development in Ireland of any site at which large electricity use is anticipated. Consultation responses may be submitted up to “close of business” on 19 March 2024 and should be sent by email to electricityconnectionpolicy@cru.ie. The CRU’s consultation paper is available at https://lnkd.in/gzvNiZ7x

☀️In many ways, 2023 was a record-breaking year for #CleanEnergy in the U.S., including the escalating installment rates of solar and energy storage, growing #ElectricVehicle sales and the number of planned domestic manufacturing facilities. ⚠️However, obstacles remain, such as supply chain issues and rising project costs due to interest rates, and faster progress is needed on things like transmission buildout. Check out Lori Bird and Joseph Womble’s new article on WRI's Insights blog diving into the state of the U.S. clean energy transition – including progress made in recent years thanks to new legislation and investments, and the work that lies ahead in order to meet clean energy ambitions.
