Echocardiography assessment of HCM by American Society of Echocardiography

In our quest for precision in speech-language pathology, it's imperative to scrutinize the assessment tools we employ. A critical look at Age Equivalent (AE) scores is overdue. These scores are meant to equate an individual's performance with a normative group's average at a certain age. But how reliable are they? I've shared an image featuring six research studies that challenge the validity of AE scores. The findings are clear: AE scores can be deceptive, lacking in reliability, and should not be the sole basis for diagnostic or treatment decisions. As professionals, we must question and refine our assessment practices. The research calls for a shift away from AE scores towards more robust and accurate measures.
