🌍 Creative Director. nxtedition is a consolidated platform that delivers our clients: 94% more productivity, 75% lower costs & 98% higher user satisfaction versus traditional legacy broadcast installations (Feb 24)
I wanted to give this little video about broadcast engineering a boost, those that have seen it love it! The traditional broadcast sector, once heavily reliant on specialised hardware and software, is now embracing common solutions like IP streams. However, navigating this transition isn't without hurdles, as legacy structures and workflows persist, anchoring us to the past. Robert and I discussed the whole concept in this video: https://lnkd.in/dMWMadFy #broadcast #engineering

5G technology is still lacking commercial use cases for broadcasters – that's one of the conclusions of our Caretta Research Analyst Insight on the state of 5G for broadcasters, published in partnership with IBC - International Broadcasting Convention. Despite extensive trials and POCs of 5G for contribution and outside broadcast, we are yet to see widespread commercial implementation. And with public mobile networks often providing insufficient bandwidth for reliable broadcast contribution, broadcasters are deploying private 5G networks and dedicated slices of public networks instead. Latency and network stability issues still need to be resolved, creating significant opportunities for vendors to step-in and create solutions to solve these challenges. 🔗 Read the full 5G in broadcast report in partnership here https://lnkd.in/e29it9h8

📡 5G enables broadcasters to move video faster over a wireless connection - it is characterised by better speeds and capacity, lower latency, better reliability and efficiency. Although successful trials have proven that 5G can be used in production, there are still latency challenges preventing broader rollout. Analysis of Caretta Portal newsfeed reveals that there were over 10,000 news mentions of 5G in 2023 which represents an 86% increase from 2022. By contrast, in the year to date, this number has dropped by 28% per month suggesting that the hype around 5G is dying down. We have just released a new report in partnership with IBC - International Broadcasting Convention to highlight the outcomes from broadcaster trials and explore the potential benefits and challenges of integrating 5G into your workflow. 🔗 Read the full 5G in broadcast report here https://lnkd.in/edUtFKKB #IBC2024 #IBC #5G #connectivity #broadcast #mediatech

Well, you've been hearing me talk about ATSC 3.0, the proposed next generation of TV broadcasting in the US, for about a decade now. Seriously. Check out all these articles. If it becomes the law of the land, ATSC 3.0 offers on-demand programming, 4K, and interactive features using an off-the-air antenna. (More on that in a minute.) But what kind of antenna will you need? #antennas #atsc3

Avid's Outgoing CEO Warns of ‘Disastrous Times’ for M&E | TV Tech (tvtechnology.com) There is no doubt that the media and entertainment industry is weathering a period of disruption, possibly unprecedented in that it is being challenged by everything everywhere all at once. The shift from traditional engineering technology to IP, Cloud and ubiquitous networking would be challenging enough but broadcasters are also having to make investment decisions on how to incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning models, all with the hope of driving efficiency in the future, while addressing the ever growing number of non-linear, live and distributed workflows today. No corner of the industry is immune from these challenges. From hyperscaler and broadcaster to live event producer and vendor there is a need to focus on navigating the industry’s future, with greater collaboration than ever before. We must not forget that at the heart of our industry remains people. It will be the skills and talents of those in the industry now, as well as those we recruit, which will help media and entertainment chart the future and come out stronger on the other side. #smpte #dpp #avidtechnology #broadcasting #broadcastindustry #hpatechretreat #hyperscaler #contentcreation #techvendor #standards
