The Blue Ocean theory. Cirque du Soleil, a Montreal based entertainment company founded in 1984. Before Cirque du Soleil, the circus industry was a highly competitive "red ocean" with many traditional circus companies battling over a shrinking market share. Cirque du Soleil's founders, however, chose to create a "blue ocean" by reimagining the circus experience. Instead of competing with traditional circuses on the same terms, they combined elements of theater, dance, and music to create a unique, high-quality performance experience that attracted a different audience—one willing to pay a premium for something novel and extraordinary. This strategic shift allowed Cirque du Soleil to create a new market space, where competition was irrelevant because they were offering something fundamentally different. This innovative approach led to significant success and established Cirque du Soleil as a global entertainment phenomenon. #learning, #cirquedusoleil #managementtheory #learning

100% MeeTV The UK is a creative superpower. Tailoring policy that plays to people's perceptions / prejudices; rather than facts is where the UK has gone wrong since 2016 and earlier. Restricting access to the University courses that drive our creative industries is both economically harmful but also goes against what the Conservatives claim that they stand for - a belief in freedom / not legislating in a way that would reduce the rights of individuals. Surely people should be allowed to make their own decisions on the paths that they wish to take - especially given that students are paying for their own education(!) (subsidised by foreign students) If someone wants to study to become an Artist, or Sound Mixer or something. They are adults and funding it themselves. Leave them to make their own decisions. Students already get a raw deal paying 8% interests on student loans, due to the Tories privatising the Student Loans company. It just reinforces how disconnected the modern Tories are from younger generations, and often, reality.
In 2022 the creative industries generated £126bn in gross value added to the economy and employed 2.4 million people. Disney earned £185bn in 2024. There's a lot of value in working with mice. #creativeindustry #mickeymousedegrees #rishisunak #creators

Could Cirque Du Soleil be more “High Performance” than some of Australia’s most recognised sporting teams? 🤔 I went to see the Adelaide premiere show with my wife Natalie yesterday, and I wanted to share my thoughts… Performers NEED more credit 💯 It was an amazing show, absolutely, but I was more in awe of their teamwork and all of the behind the scenes operations!! I loved almost as much as the performance the prop changeovers, the cleaners on the stage, and the guys helping the performers fly across the stage from the rafters 😂 The term “High Performance” is thrown around a lot these days, especially in the sport scene… My definition on this term has never been about ability, technology, or knowledge - all of that help, no doubt, but it’s more about how you respond when you’re called upon. Your plan, your attitude, and how you show up for others to achieve a goal… THESE GUYS NAILED IT 🔥 I think all athletes, aspiring sport professionals, business owners and leaders should go check out for yourself what it looks like when you share an objective and execute that goal by having your casts back 👀 The cast made some minor errors, and rather than carrying on with their own performance to look the best they could, they helped their teammate to recover, communicated extremely efficiently, and moved on with the show. SEAMLESSLY 🤯 I have seen some of the top of sporting environments in Australia, and I can safely say these guys are right up there with the best 👆 When you truly care about the TEAM you are working with, the team’s success is more important than your individual performance. When it comes to High Performance, you’re never in it alone. A lot of pieces need to work to be successful. Operating as an efficient TEAM is the only way to make High Performance possible. And these guys nailed it 🔥 Skill, athletic ability, timing, and teamwork. They have it all. Should more teams adapt this mindset of High Performance? 💭 #cirquedusoleil #highperformance

Let's talk about luxury real estate. As Lamborghini once said, "We don't run commercials because our audience isn't sitting around watching TV." This quote highlights the importance of connecting with the right audience, those who appreciate the finer things in life. I've always found this perspective incredibly insightful. If you're ready to take on the exciting world of luxury real estate, let's have a chat.

An okay book, providing a history of MGM, both as a Hollywood studio and as an international brand. The author, film historian Steven Bingen, explores how MGM expanded from a high end film studio to a brand name signifying decadent entertainment. The book is divided into clear sections, covering a business history of the MGM brand, its many components, and the individuals most associated with its rise and fall. As a film historian, Bingen centers his story on the origin and expansion of MGM as a “film factory.” A fair chunk of the book centers on L. B. Mayer and the culture of excellence he created, which became the foundation of the brand’s success. Unfortunately, though trying to tell a positive story about the MGM brand, Bingen seems to have little respect for the executives who came after Mayer, all of whom played a major role in expanding the brand. Thus, the book reads as both an ode to MGM as an entertainment culture while disparaging those who, rightly or wrongly, successfully or poorly, expanded that culture from its Hollywood roots into other industries. This confusion permeates the book, preventing the balanced business history the author’s thesis requires. A good book for understanding Hollywood’s many periods of transition.

From the Journal; Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the eclectic dine-in theater chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a bet on the future of moviegoing. The deal, an unusual example of a studio owner buying a theater chain, gives Sony control over a popular date-night destination that bills itself as a magnet for cinephiles. Most Alamo locations are in big U.S. cities like New York; Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; and Boston. It comes amid a summer box office slump and as #Hollywood grapples with how to convince audiences to leave their couch to go to the movies. Alamo, which offers a blend of mainstream and lesser-known #films, is North America’s seventh-largest theater chain, with locations in 25 metro areas and more than 10 million visitors annually, Sony said. At Alamo theaters, moviegoers can order food and drinks, including movie-themed alcoholic beverages, which are served seat-side. The deal marks Sony’s first foray into live events, with the establishment of a new division known as Sony Pictures Experiences. For years, Sony has licensed the rights to some of its most-popular franchises to live-events producers overseas. For now, the new division will focus on the moviegoing experience. More than half of Alamo’s revenue comes from concession sales, and perks including food and drink have helped the brand develop a loyal fan base, Sony said. #cinema Movie theaters are increasingly offering creative menus and new attractions to make trips to the theater more exciting. Streamers and studios are also investing more in experiences as a way to deepen fans’ connections to beloved franchises and make additional revenue off ticket sales, merchandise and concessions.

Transforming Businesses with Strategic Partnerships & Alliances, Disruptive Solutions, and Ecosystem Led Growth (Opinions expressed here are my own)
Having watched highlights from the Paris Olympics closing ceremonies, I couldn't help but consider the Tom Cruise - Warner Bros. strategic partnership. Is this about clinging to past glory rather than building a future? Cruise's return feels more like a calculated attempt to revive past hits than a bold step into new territory. Warner Bros. seems to lean on Cruise's star power instead of investing in fresh talent. Is this really about making great movies, or just playing it safe? In a nostalgic industry where revivals often trump novelty, this partnership might make financial sense. But does it push the boundaries of what Hollywood can achieve? Revivals and sequels statistically have a mixed track record at best. Shouldn't a studio like Warner Bros. aim higher than retreading old ground? What are your thoughts on this partnership? Is it a smart move or a missed opportunity? Share your insights. Remember, strategic partnerships like this require a methodical approach guided by experts who understand the delicate balance between risk and reward. The folks at Capital Growth Partners get this and apply themselves in a thoughtful, methodical way to their engagements and focus on results.
