Role Description This is a full-time on-site role located in Randburg for a Marketing Administrator/Intern at Rolux Global. In this role you will be responsible for supporting the management team in various day-to-day marketing tasks. This includes assisting with market research, analyzing marketing data, coordinating marketing campaigns, managing social media channels, and assisting with the development of marketing materials, and importantly, content creation. The role is not limited to only our South African business, and will encompass our United States operation too. You'll need to be comfortable working with various outsourced service providers to create amazing content to help grow the brand. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing within a growing global company. 🔥 Advice from a Summer Marketing Intern @ HarperCollins below! 🔥 We asked our followers to send in questions they had for a current intern, and below are the responses. Check them out 🔎 👇 ❓ What advice do you have for interviews? 💡RESEARCH! Research the imprint you are working in, what their top sellers are, what books they are currently working on, and more. If you have time, try reading one of them! I knew multiple books from the imprint I worked at when I interviewed, and I bonded with my interviewers about it. That helped open the door for a more natural conversation and gave them a sense of my personality. Later my boss told me she knew immediately after the interview I was the best candidate, and I think that is partly why. ❓ What are some key networking events that are recommended, and accessible, for those wanting to work in book publishing? 💡 I haven’t gone to a ton of networking events, but I have connected with professionals on LinkedIn to do informational interviews and that helped me tremendously. I find these the most beneficial because you have direct 1-on-1 time to get to know the other person (and have them know you) so they can support you in your career. Besides that, I would say follow virtual pages like Publishers Unite and connect with others who follow them to start your own groups. Also, don't pass over book clubs! Naturally, people who want to work or currently work in publishing are readers. I’ve met people from some of the big 5 companies there that later put in a referral for me. ❓ What types of jobs are recommended to use as an experience/way of kickstarting their career to get into administration or work as a production assistant in publishing? 💡 1) I would say any general experience in publishing is valuable to kickstart your career, even if the experience isn’t in the role you want down the line. I’m not in production or administration so I don’t have first-hand experience, but I’ve spoken to many people who started in one field just as a way to break into the company/industry and later use the connections they made to transfer into another. Horizontal shifts seem to be a thing so it is not a bad idea to try for less competitive/well-known roles and then transfer to production or administration a year later. 2) Try working as an administrative position or production assistant at another company and then highlight those transferable skills later on. However, its important to still highlight your passion for books, so try creating a bookstagram, working for the school magazine, etc. I personally started a TikTok page that my interviewers mentioned they looked at, so I’m sure it helped me land the internship. ❓ Any tips for resumes? 💡 Stick to simple and easy to read. Today marks the end of my time at Milked Media as their Email Marketing Intern! 💫 I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the new skills I’ve developed over these past three months. A big thank you to Deanna Deeds, my supervisor and email marketing mentor. When I started, I had limited knowledge of email marketing, but thanks to Deanna, I had the chance to implement email and SMS campaigns using Klaviyo and Attentive. I was able to build results-oriented strategies for 30+ email campaigns across 3+ clients, run A/B tests, analyze metrics, and even participate in key client meetings among other responsibilities. I also learned how to be productive in a remote agency environment! Working for a creative marketing agency has sparked a real fascination for the field. The variety of clients keeps things exciting, and I loved meeting people from different industries. A final thank you to Krista Karpan and Nicolette McIntyre for bringing me on board and seeing my potential to contribute to the email team, even with limited experience. I’m also incredibly honored that they wrote me a recommendation letter for marketing roles. Working at an agency has been an amazing experience, and I’d love to work at one again in the future!
