Organisational leadership have a big role to play in ensuring that women in businesses get equal opportunities despite the experience inbalance gap in gender. The strategic implementation should focus on the quality of work being done by candidates instead of long experience, while maintaining opportunities for women to learn on the job. I personally value experience, however, I also know that lengthy experience does not always translate to a better quality product or environment, and is most often resistant to change. I also believe that not using experience is a form of WASTE, combining it with fresh improvement thinking is always the 💣 BOMB. Organisations should be intentional about including women in engineering, project management and mining ⛏️ for the benefit of society. Happy women’s month to our mothers, queens and princesses of earth 🌍.

Our stories simply HAVE to be told! 🗣️ We have the responsibility to speak about our career journeys so that our younger counterparts do not encounter the same challenges we did along the way! Women in Engineering (Built Environment) and in other sectors, still encounter far too many challenges and it should not be the accepted as the status quo! I have earned my stripes, in corporate and in business. Proudly, a heavy hitter in Industry: based on merit, grit, consistent hard work, intellect and never giving up. Sweat, blood and tears - literally! I categorically refuse to allow the next generation of leaders in leadership and engineering to be subject to inferiority / mediocrity imposed on them by individuals with inferiority complexes. Here are the three areas to help women grow in any organization.   Women still only make up a third of the renewable workforce.   TerraPro Solutions has been women-owned since the start.   We’ve also been a predominantly female-staffed business throughout our lives.   I had a fantastic time sitting with Katy Temple to discuss what we’re doing to promote women in renewables and at TerraPro.   The three core areas we promote are:   1.       Trust 2.       Skills 3.       Leadership It all starts with trust. Without it, we couldn’t have sustained a decade of business and survived the pandemic. My team has asked to take on new challenges, and I’ve given them the trust that it’s ok to fail.   This leads to building out our team's skills. If our team knows they have the trust to go out, challenge themselves, and not be disciplined for failure, they will grow exponentially, which they have!   Ultimately, this wraps up into leadership. As each team member gathers the trust and skills, they build leadership in the projects and people they manage. It makes it almost effortless as a leader myself to hand off new areas.   It all stems from trust.   What did you discover when someone gave you trust?

On this International Women's Day you may be having some of these thoughts or emotions: 1️⃣ Apathy: I don't care about #iwd. This isn't going to change anything... 2️⃣ Anger: I'm frustrated that women still have to fight to be treated fairly. 3️⃣ Responsibility: It is up to me to make a difference. 4️⃣ Compassion: I love all the women in my life. How can I be supportive? 5️⃣ Peace: This is where we are and there are so many opportunities. 6️⃣ Joy: We are strong, smart, capable of anything, especially when we work together! 7️⃣ Absolute Passion: I am participating and observing fully what is going on around me. I am grateful and excited to share my insights and expertise with fellow professionals in my article published in this month's ICMA's PM Magazine. This topic, the importance to strategically develop, design a comprehensive workforce plan is as critical an effort as is any other community or regional plan (housing, climate resiliency, economic, etc).
