Has the political landscape evolved over the past 30 years to a point where U.S. Vice Presidents can successfully run for and assume the presidency? Here are several historical instances to consider: 1. John Adams (1797–1801) - The first Vice President under George Washington, Adams ascended to the presidency following Washington's tenure. 2. Thomas Jefferson (1801–1809) - Serving as Vice President under John Adams, Jefferson subsequently was elected President. 3. Martin Van Buren (1837–1841) - He held the Vice Presidency under Andrew Jackson before securing the presidency himself. 4. Richard Nixon (1969–1974) - After an unsuccessful presidential bid post his Vice Presidency under Dwight D. Eisenhower, Nixon was later elected in 1968. 5. George H.W. Bush (1989–1993) - Vice President under Ronald Reagan, Bush was elected President in 1988. These examples underscore the longstanding pathway from the Vice Presidency to the Presidency, often aided by the increased visibility and experience offered by the Vice Presidential role. What do you do when the enemy is vanquished? Who do you do fight when the fight is won? Where do you go when all roads open up to you? This was the dilemma that faced Bill Clinton as he stepped up to the podium as President of the United States. Throughout living memory, the USA had been fighting the Soviets. It had provided them with a shadow to identify themselves against, a benchmark to compare themselves with, and a resolve to strive for better. Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush had all been able to position themselves against this spectre of evil. But with a stroke of a pen, poof, the USSR was signed out of existence on the 26th of December 1991. The USA had won, or at least avoided losing, but what did victory mean? Clinton was the first US President faced with the task of defining what the United States looked like in a post Cold War world, on the eve of a new century and millennium. How would he do it? I've analysed Clinton's 1993 Inauguration Speech to determine what new course he saw for America, and how well he signposted it. What Roles Do Beliefs Play in Society? #Beliefs #Values #Conation #CriminalJustice Who do you believe? President Biden's opponent says Biden is the worst president in history. His accuser says he's a criminal. This post states that the accuser is the worst president. Then there are the four indictments and 91 felony charges of the accuser. Is this a pot-kettle situation? People on both sides of this issue will use this news as confirmation of their beliefs. They'll rationalize the information as proof that it's the evil-doing of the other party. How will bias confirmation affect the readers? The voters? Beliefs, values, and mores affect every decision we make. Anomie is the decay of values and mores. How decadent (decay) have we become? Beliefs may reflect the decadence of a society. Is supporting a criminal for POTUS a measure of anomie and decadence? Maybe it's time for the RNC to move on from the candidate with a 28 point lead on his republican opponent. I'm reminded of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot and his wife were warned to flee and not look back. Lot's wife hesitated. She looked back. What happened? She was turned into a pillar of salt. Evangelists and the RNC could take heed. Move on. Select someone else. Romney, Kinzinger. and Cheney are people who reflect more holsum, pro-social values. Choice is better than no choice. What are your beliefs about this? Will your vote be affected by your beliefs about what or who is right or wrong? To my point above: That's the power of the role your beliefs play in society.
