COO & Risk/Compliance Executive: Enhancing Business Strategy & Transformation, Mitigating Risks, Non-Profit Board Advisor
I am loving the first few weeks of my Chief of Staff role, and it is great to be back in London. As a Chief of Staff, managing multiple requests, including the unexpected, is essential. To be effective, slowing down to go faster is key. This involves: - Asking the right questions - Seeking clarity and understanding the sub-context - Defining clear accountabilities - Following up for closure and sustainability - Building strong relationships and focusing on the human elements And it’s also important to slow down and create space and capacity for strategic thinking.

Congratulations to our newest Assistant Project Manager, Michael E Hogan, who knows better than anyone the strides that can be made by focusing on getting just 1% better each day! 🎉💪🏼 Mike joined our company as an intern in 2018 and since then has seen Richard Group grow from the ten-person suburban office it once was to the two-floor, 110-person strong, West Loop company we're proud to be today. We sat down with Mike to ask him what he's learned during that time and how he approaches rising up the ranks... 🎙️Congratulations! How do you feel? 👷🏼♂️Very excited, it put me over the moon. Jed Richard talks a lot about building your toolbox. If you're a tradesperson, for example, you're going to have your tools. But if you only know how to use a hammer, there's only so much you can do. So, I see this as an opportunity to add more tools. Adding skills builds technical capabilities, personal capabilities, social capabilities. You want to add whatever tools you can to improve yourself. 🎙️And what tools are you adding as an APM? 👷🏼♂️Coming to Miami has helped me understand scheduling, constructibility, and how to put work in place; a lot of that comes from Mario Cardenas, our Sr. Superintendent down here. The other thing we've been working on is how to deal with difficult circumstances; how to not only rebound from them but to rebound in a way that's better for the team, the client and the company. There have been some difficulties with the existing water system, so finding ways to make the best of an unideal situation has been an awesome thing to learn. 🎙️What's your greatest tool? 👷🏼♂️Resiliency. A few years ago, I had an accident which resulted in a lot of surgeries and it was a long process, a very difficult process, to recover. But it taught me how to evaluate things in life, and how -- when you're near rock bottom -- to work your way back up, slowly but surely, taking advantage of every opportunity to get just a little bit better. Something we say in Miami is "one-percent better every day," and that's really what it was, because I knew if I put in the work then next week I would feel better than I did that week. So, resiliency stems from how I've learned to interact with problems and stick through it, trusting the process and working day by day to take on as much as I can but in a manageable fashion. 🎙️James Clear, the author "Atomic Habits", talks a lot about that -- focusing on continuous improvement and learning to endure the boredom of it vs. burning ourselves out on unrealistic expectations and goals. If you follow the one-percent rule though, you'll be thirty-seven times better by the end of a year. Is that the advice you'd give to someone just starting out, or what would you say? 👷🏼♂️Yeah; build your toolbox and take advantage of every opportunity. Take whatever you can from it -- even if it's only a little bit. Just take that one-percent and make yourself better every day.

There are a lot of employees who don't want to return to working onsite. However, many companies are insisting. As a frontline leader, it can be hard to find yourself stuck in the middle. When you can't do what you want, do what you can. For many, that may mean finding ways to get your team engaged in the office. Start from a place of empathy, identify the unmet need, and try to address that. We will not be able to make everyone happy all the time, but let them see you trying. Here are some ways to help make the return to work a little more bearable for your team. - Provide lunch - Make introductions to higher-ups onsite - Provide shadowing opportunities - Meet face to face - Host special events, like bring your dog to work day - Have working sessions - Brag about your team where they can hear you - Give them a raise or bonus for their engagement - Play team building games - Sit with them, so they know you're in it together Most importantly, listen to what they have to say. Listen closely. They will tell you what they need.

Certified Spiritual Life Coach | Empowering Professionals to Break Through Barriers and Live Inspired Lives Aligned with Their True Self.
Success redefined: beyond the corner office! Let's redefine success beyond the conventional definition often fixated on career achievements—the corner office, the promotions. There's more to it than titles and paychecks. Success isn't confined to a specific job title or a corner office. It's about personal growth, resilience, and the impact we have on others. It's about the seeds of evolution of who we are as individuals and how we positively contribute to other people’s lives and the world around us, through the meaningful connections we foster, the communities we uplift, and the causes we champion. That truly defines our impact and success. But there is even more to it, we cannot leave behind the corners of our soul. We should nurture it with self-reflection, and the commitment to continue learning towards achieving awareness. What's one aspect of success that goes beyond professional accomplishments for you? Share your vision of holistic success! #holisticsuccess #successredefined

🌟 Reflecting on Our Crack-ED Offsite: A Blend of Learning, Fun, and Meaningful Conversations! 🌟 Recently, we embarked on an exhilarating journey with our team during our much-anticipated office offsite. It was a perfect amalgamation of learning, bonding, and sheer enjoyment that left a lasting impact on all of us. From engaging in lively discussions about our company Crack-ED to participating in spirited dance-offs and cricket matches, every moment was filled with energy and enthusiasm. But amidst all the fun, there were invaluable lessons that I personally took away from this enriching experience. Here are a few key insights that resonated with me: - Focus on Your Goals: In the journey towards achieving our goals, setbacks are inevitable. But what truly matters is our ability to stay focused and resilient. We discussed the importance of not letting temporary failures demotivate us. Instead, we should embrace them as learning opportunities and keep pushing forward, exploring alternative paths until we reach our destination. Ultimately, success is not about the specific path we choose, but rather our unwavering commitment to achieving our objectives. Our offsite wasn't just about recreation; it was a platform for growth, connection, and self-discovery. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from my colleagues, bond with them, and emerge stronger as a team. Here's to more such enriching experiences and continued growth! And special thanks to Debojit Sen Akash Anand Pawan Kumar

Here is a glimpse of our team at the Property Management & Facilities Management Annual Lunch event. The team had a fantastic time speaking with other professionals in the industry. The keynote speaker, Paul McGrath was a prime example of what teamwork truly is and highlighted the importance of support and collaboration. One of our colleagues mentioned that it was “a humble talk that brought it all back to basics.” #RealisingPotential #Apleona #Ireland #TeamBonding #IndustryInsights #PropertyManagementandFacilitiesManagementAnnualLunch

As an Executive Assistant, I've learned that our role is far more than managing calendars and taking notes. We're strategic partners, problem-solvers, and often the glue that holds an organization together. By sharing our expertise - whether mastering complex scheduling software, crafting impeccable communications, or managing high-stakes projects - we demonstrate the true value of today's EAs. This knowledge exchange helps our peers and educates leadership about the depth of our capabilities. It's time to move past outdated perceptions. Every time we share our insights, we're reshaping the narrative around our profession. So, fellow EAs, let's continue to learn, grow, and share! Our collective voice has the power to elevate our entire field! What's one skill or insight you've gained that could help redefine perceptions of our role? #makesharedknowledgeyourbitch #easocialclub #executiveassistant #professionalgrowth #knowledgesharing
