There is always so much going on in the VBC space, so we’ve pulled together some of the biggest stories we’ve been following recently. Of particular importance to the Keebler team, due to our HQ being in Durham, NC, has been the recent devastation from Hurricane Helene, which has destroyed the lives and homes of our neighbours in North Carolina and beyond. The resulting healthcare impact is significant, and hospitals have been stretched thin trying to respond. Men, Here's the latest update on our relief efforts in North Carolina. Over the past two days, we’ve been on the phone with teams on the ground, and the devastation we are hearing about is far worse than what we’ve seen on the news or in pictures. Homes have been completely washed away, roads are impassable, and many children and elderly are stranded. Bodies are being recovered at an alarming rate, and conditions are continuing to worsen by the hour. While we don’t have all the answers, we are committed to doing what we can. We are currently assembling teams of 10 men working in 2-3 day rotations, and we plan to begin dispatching on Thursday, October 3, starting at 7 a.m. We will have two meeting points: one in Charlotte and another near Henderson, NC, which leads to the only route into Black Mountain. I know that we all have jobs and businesses to run. This won’t be a quick fix, and we may need rotations of men to step up and serve over the next few months. But I believe that if we answer this call, God will bless our efforts as we step up to render help, offer a cold cup of water in Jesus’ name, and share the hope of Jesus in both word and deed. Whether you’re able to give financially, provide heavy equipment or resources, or be the hands and feet of this relief work, we welcome any help you’re able to provide. Every contribution makes a difference, and together, we can bring much-needed aid and hope to those who are suffering. Recent storms have greatly affected our greater Houston communities. As a good corporate neighbor, it’s our responsibility to step up and support our community members in need. That’s why we’re supporting local disaster relief efforts with a $100,000 donation to four nonprofit organizations: - Houston Food Bank plays a crucial role in providing emergency food assistance to communities affected by natural disasters. The donation will help Houston Food Bank replenish food through its disaster-response partners, providing assistance for neighbors who lost all their perishable food due to power outages caused by the recent storms. - BakerRipley, with more than 55 locations across the Texas Gulf Coast Region, will use the donation to support its four community centers in providing refuge and ongoing holistic assistance to families. Additionally, funds will used to support critical programs like upcoming monthly food fairs, which are expected to see larger crowds. - Rebuilding Together Houston ensures the homes of veterans are safe and livable and will use the donation to help fund licensed contractors to perform disaster-related repairs for low-income homeowners affected by the storms, including roof replacements, structural stabilization, and repairs from water damage. - Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will use the donation to provide gift cards as well as food, clothing, vouchers for temporary shelter and essential supplies to storm victims. The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Foundation Disaster Relief Fund was established to provide financial assistance to community pharmacy owners for the repair of their pharmacies in the event of disaster, accidents, illness, or other adverse circumstances. As the first and sometimes only accessible health care provider for many patients following a disaster, we must support independent community pharmacies for a more effective immediate response to patient needs after a crisis. Ultimately, such support will lead to increased resiliency in our primary health care systems in the face of future disasters. #ICYMI - recent tornadoes that caused widespread damage in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma this past weekend. We are here to help eligible independent community pharmacy owners with funds to help repair their pharmacy and quickly get back to supporting patient needs after these devastating tornadoes.
