HYSA Know what that is? This is a great financial savings vehicle to help you earn some "free" money without any real effort. High Yield Savings Account A high-yield savings account (HYSA) with a reputable online bank is a much better option for getting free money than trying to work a credit card point system. $10,000 in my HYSA earns me $500 of free money each year—and I don't have to spend $30,000 on my credit card to get a $500 plane ticket. So, essentially, I can get the same "free" airline ticket without having to worry about credit card points and spending lots of money on my credit card (which I don't have/don't want) to earn the ticket. Really, you didn't "earn" the ticket (or get a reward)—you spent a ton of money to get it. On the other hand, all I had to do was park my money and leave it alone. It's an emergency fund, after all. Brick & Mortar Best Options: First Citizens SECU (State Employees Credit Union) Truist Worst Options: Wells Fargo Bank of America Citibank Best High Yield Savings Account Bank Ally has a great brand name, financial strength, and a track record of not baiting and switching its savings account interest rate. Its savings account currently has a 4.2% interest rate. Ally also has a useful brokerage/investment side of its bank if you want to keep your investments and bank accounts all under one roof. Marcus: Goldman Sachs HYSA currently offers a 4.4% interest rate and has a good brand name and track record. Robinhood: If you are a gold member paying $5/mo, then Robinhood offers a 5% interest rate on their savings accounts. Altruist: This is the bank I use and recommend to my clients that pays a 5.1% rate and doesn't require a membership fee. A series of lawsuits argue money markets offer far more than what many large wealth managers are willing to pay on clients’ uninvested cash.
