The World NGO Day 2024 Virtual NGO Forum, hosted by CSO Go, was a resounding success, marking another milestone in their dedication to promoting civil society in Trinidad and Tobago. Building on the momentum of previous editions, this year's event, held on Tuesday, February 27th, showcased the theme "The Role of Civil Society in Accountable and Responsible Development," encapsulated in the empowering message, "Mind Yuh Business!" CSO Go's commitment to fostering collective action and engagement was evident throughout the forum. They emphasized the importance of addressing societal challenges collectively and engaging with issues, each other, and decision-makers proactively. By revisiting the Mind Yuh Own Business (MYOB) guide, originally produced by The Cropper Foundation, CSO Go reminded participants of their shared responsibility in shaping Trinidad and Tobago's development. The event, conducted entirely in a virtual format over Zoom, allowed for seamless interaction and participation. Participants had the opportunity to engage in plenary sessions and interactive breakout sessions, fostering meaningful discussions and networking opportunities. We extend our sincere appreciation to CSO Go for their tireless efforts in organizing this impactful event, which provided a platform for over 165 unique civil society organizations to come together, share insights, and inspire action. Their dedication to advancing civil society in Trinidad and Tobago is truly commendable. As we prepare for today’s webinar, Exploring African Giving Practices, I am particularly excited to share about a tradition very dear to me: Omugwo. This Nigerian practice of postpartum care represents the essence of communal support and the transfer of generational wisdom, values that have changed the lives of countless others in Africa. Omugwo is not just postpartum care but a profound demonstration of the African spirit of mutual support, solidarity, and shared wisdom. Why This Matters: Cultural Significance: Omugwo embodies the African values of solidarity and mutual support, showing how these principles continue to thrive in modern times. A Reflection of Philanthropy: By fostering communal bonds and helping families in need, Omugwo reflects the broader African tradition of giving, which has deep roots in our societies. Exploring More: At today's webinar, we'll explore how African giving practices like Omugwo shape global philanthropy, contribute to our understanding of generosity, and offer insights into movement-building in the digital age. Event Details: Date: Today, May 2nd, 2024 Time: 9 am EST | 1 pm GMT | 2 pm WAT | 3 pm CAT | 4 pm EAT Venue: Zoom Registration: Join us here: bit.ly/AfricaTrad I look forward to seeing you there as we delve explore #AfricanGiving and how they shape our world! . . . #AfricanGiving #AfricanGivingPractices #GivingPractices #GivingTraditions #AfricanGivingTraditions #AfricanPhilanthropy #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesdayAfrica #TrustAfrica

I would like to say thank you to Oxfam Denmark, the grant agent for Global Partnership For Education (GPE) who manages the Education Out Loud Program for visiting Civil Society Education Coalitions in the Pacific. A learning & sharing workshop was delivered by Oxfam Denmark from the 18th -25th September, 2024 in Honiara, Solomon Islands to 4 education coalition's in the Pacific. Education Out Loud (EOL), the Global Partnership for Education’s (GPE) fund for advocacy and social accountability, supports civil society in shaping education policy to meet community needs, especially for vulnerable populations. Oxfam Denmark, the grant agent for EOL, conducts grantee visits to understand grantee capacities and contexts, strengthen relationships, and facilitate learning among the four Oceania-based grantees: Solomon Islands, PNG, Vanuatu, and Samoa. Despite challenges from COVID-19, these countries prioritize education, but funding gaps hinder progress in infrastructure and quality improvements. The Pacific Island NECs have utilized the GAPSED+ framework to identify marginalized groups, including people with disabilities and remote communities, who face significant educational access barriers. The recent visit to the Solomon Islands highlighted the need for improved documentation, member engagement, enriched reporting, and better human resource planning. EOL aims to support grantees in adaptive management, sustainability, and enhancing visibility while fostering capacity building and learning exchanges. #GlobalPartnershipForEducation #EducationOutLoud #OxfamDenmark #CoalitionForEducationSolomonIslands #PNGEducationAdvocacyNetwork #SamoaEducationNetwork #KolisenBlongLeftemapEducation

The initiative "Looking at tomorrow" was implemented in 50 schools in the areas of Evros and the Region of Thessaly, which in September 2023 were affected by natural disasters. Through experiential empowerment activities, the initiative contributed to the support of students by strengthening their self-confidence and hope for the future. Topics related to disaster management were discussed, such as ways to manage stress, volunteering, the importance of prevention to avoid similar situations and the importance of supporting and empowering the community. Students who shared their experience stated that the initiative helped them relieve stress and/or discover ways to cope with it, while at the same time mentioned that the discussions with mentors and the interaction they had with them contributed significantly to their feeling of safety and support. The initiative was implemented in strategic cooperation with Piraeus within the framework of its multifaceted Corporate Social Responsibility programme “EQUALL - For a Society of Equal People” under the “New Generation” pillar. #TheTippingPoint #Piraeus #Equall #mentoring #supportingstudents #PiraeusBank #NewGeneration
