You may know that the minimum wage and minimum award rates have increased as of 1 July 2024 by 3.75%.
You may think that you are paying above award, but have you done an audit lately? A pay audit should be carried out at least once a year to ensure your process and rates are up to date and legally compliant.
Further, it will be important for businesses to understand the Wage Theft laws which will be coming into play as part of Fair Work’s closing loopholes Act which will mean it will become a criminal offense to intentionally engage in conduct that results in the underpayment of employees.
💡 As a client of People Design HR, we keep you updated with your obligations and any changes to legislation and ensure that your pay rates are audited once per year.
Time flies and we all get distracted by other urgent tasks, but putting this off could land you in deep water 😉

In April 2024, The UK government released its response to the draft code of practice on the fair distribution of tips, along with an updated code of practice.
The new legislation, effective from 1 October 2024, mandates that all tips be passed on to workers. Additionally, businesses where tips are given more than occasionally must establish a tipping policy. To ensure fairness and transparency, companies must follow the updated code of practice when distributing tips.
In its response, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) stated:
"We will continue to work closely with other Government Departments and stakeholders in tipping industries to help businesses prepare for implementation and support workers to be informed about their new rights.
"We will also continue to work with other Government Departments and stakeholders to prepare non-statutory guidance and communications to support businesses in implementing the new rules."
Whether you handle tips through your payroll or use an external tronc, ensure you are familiar with the code and understand how to comply by 1st October 2024.

To my investor and private equity network: M&A due diligence got easier with our PaidRight wage compliance platform.
🔍In M&A, wage compliance is a key risk that can impact the success of a deal. W&I insurers are challenged, as traditional methods like manual checks and sampling aren’t enough to catch everything.
Wage compliance is too important to rely on outdated methods. A wage compliance platform provides a smarter, data-driven approach, reducing risks and supporting smoother, more sustainable M&A transactions.
Our latest blog explains how a wage compliance platform improves accuracy, reduces costs, and provides critical insights for post-deal success.

There are rules that businesses must follow when they are reporting employee changes. These changes must be sent to HMRC using a Full Payment Submission (FPS). The FPS is a submission that is required every time you pay your employees and must be submitted on or before the usual date you pay your employees. The information provided on an FPS helps HMRC ensure that they have the up-to-date information on your employees. #Payroll#EmployeeTaxRecords
