Firearms in domestic violence situations increase the risk of homicide by 500%. The intertwining relationship between firearms and domestic violence is often overlooked. We MUST continue to take action to protect survivors. #EndGunViolence #GunResponsibility #DVPrevention #SaveLives #StopDV

One of the most common points raised when I asked how can Edmonton be better is addressing homelessness. So when I see a comment from our Premier stating that “My government will continue to do what is necessary to restore public safety throughout Alberta” I am encouraged but it leaves me asking an important question: How? We know there are issues with providing safety and security for people experiencing homelessness in shelters. Is there a plan to ensure that shelter providers have the necessary resources to create a safe and secure space for people using those shelters? Is there a plan to build out the necessary units of 24/7 supportive housing and recovery beds? Is there a plan to provide the necessary mental health and addictions support for those who are struggling? As these questions fall within provincial jurisdiction, it’s important to have a detailed plan of action otherwise these are just words at a time where we are dealing with a serious crisis. To date, the only plan is one that was released by former Premier Kenney on October 1st, 2022 and I have yet to see a plan of action to implement all the recommendations from that report. We will continue to be ready to support the provincial government on this as it will take all orders of government to help those experiencing homelessness while also making sure that those preying on people experiencing homelessness are held accountable for their actions. And it should be noted that we aren’t sitting back waiting for action. While certain things like requiring all shelters to operate using minimum shelter standards aren’t within our jurisdiction, we have been funding the construction of new supportive housing units so that people aren’t having to live in an encampment. You can learn more about the work we are doing using the link in the comments.

Guns. Deadly fentanyl. Sexual assaults. It ends now! Violent and organized gangs are terrorizing our vulnerable populations within encampments. This is not safe for anyone. We need to attack the cause of the homeless too and solve addiction related fallout. This is a snowball that’s getting so big we are past the point of being “humane” while still calling it human rights Human rights end when you’re not longer a functioning human Most severe drug Addiction starts with a prescription by a normal doctor to a normal person who’s in pain…… how do I know? Well, my dead friends. That’s how I know. People who NEVER would have been addicts ever. Taken. Anyway - the homeless and gang issues are the result of long ignored human “rights” - we throw them buns and call them ambulances and say we are doing everything we can? We need to do more and take a more investor stance to either force recovery or guarantee safety. Drug jails. lol. You are simply not allowed to be an addict of any kind. They can’t clean themselves up Save people - take away their right to be a homeless street rat….. cuz that should never be a right and it’s perpetuating more and more and more and more. Furthermore - addictions traced back to initial doctor prescriptions need to be harshly reviewed. Yes doc you saved them - but the drugs killed them in the long run… this HAS to be addressed.

Evicting people from encampments - without housing or even shelter - will be totally ineffective, it's cruel, incredibly dangerous & it will make the problem worse and will ultimately be more expensive. The are more effective & rapidly deployable options. The province has played a role in allowing this problem to get this bad (hint: provincially funded shelters, lack of housing investment) it can play a lead role in solving it (hint: think disaster response, Housing First, affordable rental housing, shelter reform).

As mass shootings and gun-related violence heavily impact Jewish communities around the country, the trickle-down results are spreading… ➖ Some synagogue and JCC members who don’t feel safe onsite stop visiting, resulting in poor attendance and monetary strife. ➖ Members who do show up may be doing so despite their fear, which can impact the positive environment and create toxicity in the community. ➖ Non-members may pass judgment on the synagogue's and JCC's perceived safety, damaging the community's and its congregation's reputation. While it can be difficult to plan for an unspeakable tragedy, the alarming rise in anti-Jewish hate crimes demands action in JCCs and synagogues. On Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. Eastern, ZeroEyes is proud to sponsor a strategic and tactical discussion on protecting Jewish community centers and places of worship from the emerging threat of gun-related violence. Your hosts: ▪️ Scott Braswell, CEO of California’s Merage JCC of Orange County ▪️ Steve Rogers, CEO of New Jersey’s Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Don’t miss this crucial talk on how Jewish community leaders are standing up to hate and leveraging technology to protect against gun-related violence—reserve your seat now for this online event.
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Mitigating Risks of Gun Violence Against the Jewish Community. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
