💔 Black women are nearly 3x more likely to be killed by males than white women. This stark reality highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and firearm violence on communities of color. In 2022, 78% of Black women killed by males were shot with firearms. This alarming statistic reflects a significant increase in firearm-related homicides, up from 51% in 2011. At Hope and Heal Fund, we are committed to addressing the systemic inequities that make Black women more vulnerable to this lethal violence. We must continue to push for resources and healing practices that protect all women, especially those disproportionately impacted by domestic violence. @VPC https://lnkd.in/gcsjWEgC

Congrats on the Hope and Heal Fund team for presenting at the historic The White House meeting where Latinx leaders delivered firearm violence prevention recommendations. Props to Refujio "Cuco" Rodriguez for sharing his insights with members of the office, such as Gregory Jackson Jr.

Last week, Latinx and Caribbean leaders came together at the @WhiteHouse for an impactful roundtable discussion during #HispanicHeritageMonth! 🗣️ This event, hosted by the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Action Fund, Hope and Heal Fund, GIFFORDS, and MomsRising.org, focused on strengthening partnerships with The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and building a coalition of Latinx leaders dedicated to reducing firearm violence, suicides and trauma in our communities. Very proud to see Hope and Heal’s own Refujio "Cuco" Rodriguez as a main speaker at the event. Together, we pushed for solutions that prioritize and uplift Latinx voices in our fight to #EndGunViolence.

According to @VPC, nearly 90% of women murdered by men were killed by someone they knew—and over half were intimate partners. This devastating fact highlights the deeply personal nature of many of these crimes. Adding to the tragedy, firearms were used in 2 out of every 3 of these murders, with handguns being the most common weapon. The presence of a firearm in an abusive relationship drastically increases the likelihood that violence will turn fatal. At Hope and Heal Fund, we are combating these alarming numbers by investing in organizations like The Positive Result Center which addresses the root causes of violence from both cultural and age-based perspectives. Their approach focuses on preventing and ending teen dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of interpersonal harm.

This past Friday I was honored to be part of a long needed conversation at the White House regarding gun violence in Latino Communities and in Latin America and the Caribbean. While I was surrounded by wonderful colleagues I was pleased that our ancestors were present as well. In Oct 1954 my grandfather came in through Calexico as an Alien Labororer. In Oct 2024 his grandson brought him to the White House to sit with him.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time to come together and raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence on individuals and communities. DVAM unites advocates, survivors, and supporters in the fight to end violence against women and children. This month, we recognize the progress made, but we must also acknowledge that much work remains to combat domestic violence, which is a leading cause of firearm homicides. Data discrepancies often obscure the true scope of the issue, misleading the narrative. It's crucial that we address these gaps and push for a clearer understanding to effectively end domestic violence. #DVAM #EndDomesticViolence #1Thing #SurvivorSupport #OctoberAwareness
