Rubedo Life Sciences has spent the last six years meticulously laying the groundwork for its pipeline of senescent cell-targeting treatments -- a field that grabbed headlines in the late 2010s for its anti-aging potential. "We didn't want to rush, we wanted to make sure that we were solid before embarking into clinical development. And now we are ready," CEO Marco Quarta told me. Now, flush with a $40-million series A, the biotech plans to enter the clinic this year with its lead senolytic to treat atopic dermatitis and psoriasis: diseases with unmet patient need, carefully selected as the best to demonstrate clinical proof-of-concept. #Endometriosis is a dreadful women’s disease, still very much lacking attention and under-researched. Current therapies can relieve (some) symptoms, but more targeted and efficient medicines are highly needed. This is what we are going to search for, thanks to a substantial grant that we received from the BioInnovation Institute (BII) in Copenhagen, with the help of KU Leuven Research & Development (LRD). Our unique endometriosis organoid models will be subjected to high-throughput drug screenings in our CurE-me (CURing EndoMEtriosis) project to find new and better medicines. This 3-year incubation project is aimed at leading to a spin-off with IP remaining at KU Leuven. My eminent postdoc Emma Laporte will lead the project on-site in Copenhagen.
