Have you heard of Ruggable ? Their digital marketing and collabs are so on point!
The catch? They’re the H&M and Shein of the rug industry.
Decades ago just like fast fashion companies swooped in and made the concept of clothing ‘disposable’, Ruggable is doing this for rugs.
Rug making is an ancient handmade craft that uses natural materials (or in the modern day recycled materials which I can live with).
With companies like these making machine washable polyester rugs, three things happen -
1. The rugs are cheap and easy to dispose off, creating more waste. They’re made of polyester so they go straight to landfill.
2. They’re machine washable. Every time you wash them you’re sending millions of little micro plastics into the waterways.
3. They are setting a dangerous precedent- making the idea of rugs disposable.
What’s even more shocking - companies like Architectural Digest back them. Ummm why? Look at the data people - Gen Z want sustainable products, not plastic carpets.
