Positive impostor syndrome as a lever for leadership effectiveness: I think there is something powerful to this suggested view of leveraging impostor syndrome purposefully, vs the prevailing view that it's debilitating and must be hidden and fought. Perhaps it's also another way to say that humbleness and self awareness with inner strength are important leadership traits. A few headlines: - Those who are (positively) skeptical of their own capabilities are actually better positioned to succeed. - Business issues and opportunities in todays world are rarely uni dimensional and naturally require leaders to engage across dimensions and disciplines. - No one in a leadership position should assume they have all the answers and know more than others, and therefore all must reach out to and engage accordingly with others. - Contrast impostor syndrome with narcissism or unfounded confidence - with entitlement, attention seeking, inflated self views and lack of empathy for the first, and unawareness of lack of skills and over estimation for the second.

In my 30 years experience assessing leaders and 15 years as an executive leadership coach, imposter syndrome can be a powerful driving force to motivate you to up your game. In women in particular the most common thing I see holding them back is confidence vs competence. Imposter syndrome exists when your competence and confidence are not developing at the same speed. For any leader a little fear of ‘not being good enough’ or ‘having all the answer’ can be a good thing especially if they get support and help from their network and a coach to overcome it. #confidence #impostersyndrome #femaleleaders #leadership
