During #BlackHistoryMonth, as we celebrate the remarkable achievements of Black Americans and their contributions in the ongoing fight for environmental justice, we are also reflecting on the road ahead to ensure an equitable and just energy future for all. The reality is 25% of American households are energy-burdened, which disproportionately hurts Black communities. Read more in The Washington Informer from our Co-Chairs, Congressman Kendrick Meek and Mayor Michael A. Nutter, on how natural gas and renewables, working together, can help solve today’s energy inequities:

In celebration of Black History Month, follow and applaud the efforts of Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Marquise Stillwell, co-founders of Urban Ocean Lab, a think tank dedicated to the solutions that could save coastal cities. Listen to these statistics and tell me you don't want to be a part of their work: * 65 million people live in US coastal cities * Nearly 60% of the people living in coastal cities are people of color * There are 58.3 million jobs in the coastal economy, which brings in $9.5 trillion to our total GDP * The ocean could potentially supply 35% of our necessary climate solutions Their work includes a framework with more than 70 solutions and recommendations for coastal cities. Be a part of these equitable solutions to protect communities!

Throwback to South African-German Energy Programme’s (SAGEN) celebration of achievements. Time flies! We can barely believe that just weeks ago, we hosted our year-end function with our valued partners from across South Africa, and now we are leaping full force into making our desired outcomes for 2024 a reality. Who is “we”? SAGEN. The South African- German Energy Programme, a bilateral partnership designed to make reliable, affordable and a clean energy future a possibility for South Africa through collaboration. We celebrated many highs achieved together with our partners. Dr Silas Mulaudzi from the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), noted, “The difference that working with SAGEN has brought in the municipal space is quite massive! Municipalities have benefitted a lot in different areas of renewable energy.” from improving energy management systems, embedded generation, expertise refinement, increasing skills transfer, and more. The occasion was also an opportunity to celebrate the launch of the next phase of Capacities for the Energy Transition II (CET II) which will be led by Anna-Maria Heisig and will build on the outstanding work achieved by CET I. Heisig shares, “We have trained close to 900 sector experts, [who] are going to be the current and future experts of the energy transition”. A remarkable reflection of SAGEN’s dedication to creating a reliable, affordable and clean energy future through collaboration. In the words of SAGEN’s Head of Programme, Lilian Charlotte Laurisch, “Our main focus will continue to be on supporting the energy transition in South Africa and be a reliable partner in advancing South Africa’s energy goals.” To see what else our partners shared and how celebrations unfolded, watch our video: https://lnkd.in/eiUkKRjU _________________________________________________________________________________ SAGEN collaborates with South African partners to support the country’s transition to a reliable, affordable and clean energy future. SAGEN is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by SECO Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, the National Treasury of South Africa, Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, the South African Local Government Association and Sanedi.org. #SAGEN #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #EnergyPartnership #Collaboration #SouthAfrica #Germany #ElectricityDistribution #PowerSectorReform #EnergyPolicy #DistributedEnergy #EndLoadshedding

"What the EnerWealth model offers rural communities, Othow suggests, is a way to benefit from development while retaining land ownership and agricultural use." We're proud of our partnership with EnerWealth Solutions, LLC, and we love to see their mission of supporting rural landowners through small-scale solar plus storage highlighted in articles like this. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eJnmpKNA
'The firm (Enerwealth Solutions) specifically seeks out Black and small-scale landowners in North and South Carolina, including farmers, who want to lease some of their property for solar panels. In return, those landowners receive a consistent stream of income that far exceeds what they would earn by leasing to other farmers.' https://bit.ly/3unlT4M

We're celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth by recognizing the trailblazers who paved the way for progress in all industries, including solar, throughout the month. To close out the month, we'd like to spotlight Lonnie Johnson. Sure, he invented the Super Soaker, but did you know Lonnie Johnson is also a force in renewable energy? After a distinguished career at NASA and the Air Force, Johnson founded his energy research companies. Here's what he's known for: The Johnson Thermoelectric Energy Converter (JTEC): This system aimed to revolutionize heat-to-electricity conversion, supporting solar and other renewable sources. Innovative Battery Technology: Johnson's companies focused on developing new, powerful batteries essential for storing solar energy. Let's celebrate Black innovators like Lonnie Johnson, whose determination and brilliance are shaping the future of renewable energy! #SolarIndustry #DiversityInSolar #CleanEnergy #AEESolar #BlackExcellence #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability
