Humans and AIs represent just two points on a spectrum of intelligent beings, hinting at a future of vast complexity and diversity. The concept of "diverse intelligence" encompasses unconventional beings beyond our current understanding. AIs, like children, challenge us to redefine our beliefs, values, and collective direction as a species. The expanding range of sentient beings will reshape old narratives, urging us to evolve our views on intelligence, agency, and life itself. It's time to shift the dialogue around AIs from capabilities to compassion for all beings deserving moral consideration.

Conference: Human Freedom at the test of AI and Neurosciences Rome, 2–5 September 2024 (https://lnkd.in/dpVn2R-x) "What is humanism? What does it mean to be human in an age marked by the rapid developments of scientific knowledge and technological applications, especially in the fields of AI and neuroscience? The category of humanism, as well as the fundamental question of human freedom, face enormous challenges in such a technoscientific era. Large algorithmic systems make millions of decisions every day without any human mediation, and those decisions impact millions of lives. Large machine learning and neural network systems that “feed” on data have reached a level of pervasiveness and ubiquity that makes them capable of influencing any type of social phenomenon, from financial transactions to electoral campaigns. Entanglement becomes sometimes so deep that it can prove hard to distinguish the social phenomenon from the technical device intervening in it (hence the notion of socio-technical systems). The algorithms suggest which music to listen to, which films to watch, and what to buy. Furthermore, various information intermediation services work on the basis of algorithms that highlight what (according to them) is the most interesting news for us to read. However, algorithms are not neutral. They can replicate social biases on a large scale. What ethical limits should be inserted into algorithms to preserve the freedom of judgment and action of the human subject? If it is true that “software is eating the world,” as software engineer and entrepreneur Marc Andreessen claims, perhaps it is time to start asking the right questions about how to build, “feed,” and use these new and very powerful tools,...". That is an amazing summary of what my essay "The Dictatorship of Experts" is about. https://a.co/d/aJcDHkL The subject is getting more crucial by the day. The European Union has just legislated on the subject: https://lnkd.in/dPJffVFR "The provisional agreement bans, for example, cognitive behavioral manipulation". I am not sure how this could work. Any marketing activity is in itself a cognitive behavioral manipulation, the school system is using cognitive behavioral manipulation to socialize the kids, the state is using it to have us pay our taxes on time, and the hotels to reducing our utilization of towels,... The future is now.

😁 Very good video that explains the distinctions between generative AI and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). https://lnkd.in/eRVJtRqh Generate AI is a very powerful concept that can assist human beings in developing new cures for illnesses, and new materials with specific properties, and support specialists to make decisions in many fields where pattern recognition is required. We just need to consider it as a new tool in our toolbox and not as a jack of all trades that will soon replace us. We are still far away from it. We should not listen to the priests of the new AI religion who would like us to adjust to their dreams and offer them our lives as an offering. This new technology-driven religion will end up in a bloodbath for many believers. For more check: https://a.co/d/9ChMsLG

With AI, AGI and in a possible future ASI, humans will probably need new narratives and explanations to understand better the new relationships between us, the world, and these new "minds". Science Fictions books from Isaac Asimov and its Robotic Laws, or the "Culture" books of the late Iain Books, and even the "degree of strangeness" in Orson Scott Card sagas have tried to explain what could the world be in a time where we have to live together with uncanny new "alien" minds, the real AGIs and ASIs, if possible. I did Prompt this to Chat GPT, in a very simple way through this new platform just starting, original in its method (Expert Prompting Creators and Engineers getting together in a tokenised platform where those who need complex Prompts can purchase and share them). I share with you the link to my Prompt, invite you to explore this platform called www.4irGPT.com and follow my Prompts. As when Internet started, our lives are changing with the constant use of AIs in our lives. Imagine in ten years from now.

An underrated lens to study the Generative AI technology to assess its potential long-term impacts and unintended negative consequences is through history. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Lapham’s Quarterly on Technology that are highly relevant in today’s Brave New World of Generative AI. https://lnkd.in/gvhWxPpB 💠 "Playing God is indeed playing with fire. But that is what we mortals have done since Prometheus, the patron saint of dangerous discoveries. We play with fire and take the consequences, because the alternative is cowardice in the face of the unknown." – Ronald Dworkin, 2000 💠"All technologies should be assumed guilty until proven innocent." – David Browser, 1992 💠"We don't have the option of turning away from the future. No one gets to vote on whether technology is going to change their lives." – Bill Gates, 1995 💠"If there is a technological advance without a social advance, there is, almost automatically, an increase in human misery." – Michael Harrington, 1962 💠"The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do." – B.F. Skinner, 1969 💠"I have seen the science I worshiped, and the aircraft I loved, destroying the civilization I expected them to serve." – Charles Lindbergh, 1948 💠"If we had a reliable way to label our toys good and bad, it would be easy to regulate technology wisely. But we can rarely see far enough ahead to know which road leads to damnation." – Freeman Dyson, 1979 💠"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." – Douglas Adams, 1992 💠"As usual, what we call "progress" is the exchange of one nuisance for another nuisance." – Havelock Ellis, 1914 💠"Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. They are but improved means to an unimproved end." – Henry David Thoreau, 1854 💠"It is questionable if all the mechanical inventions yet made have lightened the day's toil of any human being. They have enabled a greater population to live the same life of drudgery and imprisonment, and an increased number of manufacturers and others to make fortunes." – John Stuart Mill, 1848 💠"The engineer is fast taking the posting of authority, superseding the priest, the scholar, and the statesman in our organized thought and action." – Scott Buchanan, 1929 💠"During my eighty-seven years, I have witnessed a whole succession of technological revolutions. But none of them has done away with the need for character in the individual or the ability to think." – Bernard Baruch, 1957 These quotes made it much more clear to me why techno-optimists tend not to use the historical lens when trying to judging new technology. #GenerativeAI #TechnologyImpacts #EthicalAI #HistoricalPerspective #History

Digital God: The Future Deity of Humanity? Unveiling the Future: Will AI Birth a Digital God in the Years to Come? By Domagoj Pernar -December 1, 2023 Digital God In the digital age, technology has become an overwhelmingly integral part of our daily lives. From smartphones to smart homes, we rely on technology for everything from communication to entertainment and even to love life. And that rapid progress in technology and artificial intelligence is poised to give rise to a new era of digital worship. When will it happen, we can’t know for sure, but we’re almost certain it will, and organized religion, as we know it today, will likely disappear completely. (See our article “What if Religion Never Existed”). Having said that, the concept of a Digital God is not new. In fact, it has been discussed for years (even decades now), with some experts predicting that an AI god will emerge by 2042 and even write its own bible. While the idea of a Digital God may seem unbelievable, the reality is that technology is advancing at an unimaginable rate, and it is not inconceivable that a digital deity could one day become a reality. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, people born in the future will inevitably have a different relationship with religion than previous generations. Religion has been a part of human civilization for thousands of years, with people turning to faith to find meaning and purpose in their lives. However, the way people practice religion has changed over time, with new beliefs and practices emerging as societies have evolved. While some believe that religion will disappear in the future, others believe that it will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing times.
