Theory of #mind represents the ingestion, curated entrainment and epistemological event horizon of an essentially inarticulable metaphysical Otherness. Much is made of commercial opportunity and/or #existential threat represented by artificial #intelligence. I'm not sure we should be so concerned about the potential arrival of unregulated #superintelligence, if indeed this does ever occur. We will remain more haunted by the fact that the current apogee of neuroscientific and computational self-simulation quite concretely indicates that, as we stare into this logical abyss of our own arbitrarily categorised high-dimensional data #complexity, we find that no one and nothing is gazing back. I am reminded of Jorge Luis Borges' "𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦; 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦." We build words and worlds on nothing in much this way. Mind may in some sense represent an undecidable logical proposition but we must live, pragmatically, as though it were well-defined and tangibly pliable.

The hard problem! Most of the people spend lifetime solving easy problems, but rarely people engage in solving the hard problem, or even realizing there is one. While one of the biggest one is "hard-problem" of consciousness, I can see a paradigm with our work in AI, development and even life. Writing code or utilizing AI models is an easy problem, coming up with successful platforms that change lifes or AI models that impact thousands of people is hard. Letting the life go on is easy, but challenging your self and finding ways to understand yourself is hard. But, do you really want to deal with the hard problem? It's uncertain you will solve it, but if you learn to appreciate the journey you win! And back to the hard problem of consciousness, it's exciting and developing field like AI is. Or can we say, it is WAY more exciting. Wil we come up with AGI before we understand our own I, consciousness? Will we ever be able than to understand it really? If you really want to explore the latest in hard problem of consciousness please look into works from Stuart Hameroff, Roger Penrose and David Chalmers. #hardproblem #consciousness #AI

Gazing into the Technological Abyss: Nietzsche and the Future of Humanity Friedrich Nietzsche's #enigmatic words, "Anyone who fights with monsters should make sure that he does not in the process become a monster himself," resonate deeply in the #context of futuristic philosophical writing. As humanity ventures into the uncharted territory of advanced technology, we face ethical and existential questions that mirror our battles with internal demons. The "monsters" of our future may not be literal creatures but rather the unintended consequences of our innovations. Artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and mind-altering #technologies possess the potential to radically reshape our world, raising concerns about identity, free will, and the very nature of being human. Nietzsche's warning is particularly relevant as we delve deeper into the "abyss" of these technologies. By understanding the potential downsides, we can strive to mitigate them. For instance, developing AI with built-in ethical frameworks or ensuring transparency in genetic modification could help prevent #monstrous outcomes. But the abyss also "looks into you," suggesting that pursuing power and control over these technologies carries the risk of dehumanisation. The quest for transhuman enhancement might lead to a society obsessed with perfection, ostracising those deemed "unworthy." In this pursuit of dominance, we risk losing our human qualities: empathy, compassion, and recognising our intrinsic value, flaws and all. The challenge, then, becomes navigating this technological #landscape with both ambition and humility. We must embrace the potential for progress while acknowledging the inherent risks. This requires open dialogue, ethical frameworks, and a commitment to safeguarding our humanity as we explore the vast possibilities of the future. Nietzsche's words ring true today more than ever before. By heeding his warnings and engaging in thoughtful discourse, we can ensure that our fight against the "monsters" of technology does not transform us into monsters ourselves. As we gaze into the abyss, let us do so with the wisdom and foresight necessary to ensure a future prioritising progress and humanity.Atiqul Haq Mazumder Nicolaj van der Meulen Stefania Pinsone

Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari : find the communication and power nexus and find answers to existential crisis after AI . Harari navigates history and framework of power , existence and justice through the lens of communication network. From cave paintings to hunters to media technologies to to Stalinists , Nazism , corporations , networking of the powerful with loads of information , to the basic question that if we are homo sapiens , the wise creature , then why we are bent upon destroying humanity. With AI entering the human race , what would be the future , will lies , deceptions and misinformation and oppressors narratives fill their coffers? What's the nexus of communication , power and justice in this new world ? How would we cope with it ? Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari raises these fundamental and essential queries. It has hit the stands , go and find what ate the answers .

😁 Very good video that explains the distinctions between generative AI and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). https://lnkd.in/eRVJtRqh Generate AI is a very powerful concept that can assist human beings in developing new cures for illnesses, and new materials with specific properties, and support specialists to make decisions in many fields where pattern recognition is required. We just need to consider it as a new tool in our toolbox and not as a jack of all trades that will soon replace us. We are still far away from it. We should not listen to the priests of the new AI religion who would like us to adjust to their dreams and offer them our lives as an offering. This new technology-driven religion will end up in a bloodbath for many believers. For more check: https://a.co/d/9ChMsLG

Conference: Human Freedom at the test of AI and Neurosciences Rome, 2–5 September 2024 (https://lnkd.in/dpVn2R-x) "What is humanism? What does it mean to be human in an age marked by the rapid developments of scientific knowledge and technological applications, especially in the fields of AI and neuroscience? The category of humanism, as well as the fundamental question of human freedom, face enormous challenges in such a technoscientific era. Large algorithmic systems make millions of decisions every day without any human mediation, and those decisions impact millions of lives. Large machine learning and neural network systems that “feed” on data have reached a level of pervasiveness and ubiquity that makes them capable of influencing any type of social phenomenon, from financial transactions to electoral campaigns. Entanglement becomes sometimes so deep that it can prove hard to distinguish the social phenomenon from the technical device intervening in it (hence the notion of socio-technical systems). The algorithms suggest which music to listen to, which films to watch, and what to buy. Furthermore, various information intermediation services work on the basis of algorithms that highlight what (according to them) is the most interesting news for us to read. However, algorithms are not neutral. They can replicate social biases on a large scale. What ethical limits should be inserted into algorithms to preserve the freedom of judgment and action of the human subject? If it is true that “software is eating the world,” as software engineer and entrepreneur Marc Andreessen claims, perhaps it is time to start asking the right questions about how to build, “feed,” and use these new and very powerful tools,...". That is an amazing summary of what my essay "The Dictatorship of Experts" is about. https://a.co/d/aJcDHkL The subject is getting more crucial by the day. The European Union has just legislated on the subject: https://lnkd.in/dPJffVFR "The provisional agreement bans, for example, cognitive behavioral manipulation". I am not sure how this could work. Any marketing activity is in itself a cognitive behavioral manipulation, the school system is using cognitive behavioral manipulation to socialize the kids, the state is using it to have us pay our taxes on time, and the hotels to reducing our utilization of towels,... The future is now.
