Last week at IEEE, S&C CTO Ernst Scholtz discussed how extreme weather is challenging our already vulnerable grid. "A reliable and resilient distribution grid is the foundation for a more dynamic and sustainable electrical energy future. S&C's proven technologies modernize distribution with today's intelligent and self-healing capabilities to provide this much-needed base."

Have you heard of REFA? Berkeley Lab and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) teamed up to create a tool for the economic and financial assessment of reconductoring projects. This tool supports regional grid transmission planning in the era of FERC 1920, moving the needle on grid modernization. Check out the fact sheet below. #AdvancedConductors #Reconductoring

Upgrade you Interconnection Queue IQ! There is no #CleanEnergy transition without transmission - we must responsibly expand our grid to more rapidly onboard clean energy. In 2023 over 3K new project requests to connect to the grid representing over 900 MWs of RE & storage. In total over 11K projects representing ~2.6 TWs of RE & storage capacity actively seeking connection! The Western queue (excluding Cal) represents 700+ MWs of potential - good news is wait time in West to get connection is below national average.
Berkeley Lab's webinar on its Queued Up report is up on YouTube. It breaks down exactly what is happening in interconnection queues in the ISO and non-ISO regions. Favorite quote from Joseph Rand: "We are truly on the precipice of a major energy transition in this country." Let's get that clean energy online!

At The White House Summit on Modernizing the Power Grid held this week, Ampacimon CEO Stephan Heberer highlighted that utility companies in Belgium have successfully implemented Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) across their entire network, effectively managing long-standing congestion while maintaining a stable and cost-effective grid. However, he noted that the U.S. has yet to fully utilize these technologies. We are proud that Ampacimon DLR is being used in both fully deployed U.S. transmission grids. With numerous projects in various stages of implementation, we look forward to contributing to the modernization of 100,000 miles of the grid. The given graphics shows there is always the transfer of energy to maintain the energy at a height necessary for a system to run and achieve the maturity that leads to new dimensions, if the transfer of energy is to maintain the level of energy of a system to a particular height is denied by the next generation or is not passed on properly, the standard collapses and there comes a time of standstill for some time and it is not over until a generation comes that seek for the new ways of getting and continue the usual process of getting the level of maturity and pass it on. The history shows there have been nations going very well in transferring the knowledge, strategies and practices which leads them to a particular height and maintain it in every generation, but having just a generation refusing to take the lessons from the generation before the nation starts getting shaken and may not cope up with the pressures the competitors not making the same mistake.

"The U.S. Power Grid Is Failing. Here Are Three Ways to Fix It. The U.S. power grid is aging, and with extreme weather and greater demand taxing the system, that’s leading to more energy shortages. WSJ spoke with an electrical engineer about three solutions. 1. Need to build and optimize mix of generation with various environmental features. Need to especially build more hydro. 2. More transmission and regional interconnection.Speed up project permitting. 3. Better manage demand and EV charging. https://lnkd.in/gYwaNEuH

Only 55 miles of new high-voltage transmission were built in 2023, continuing a decline in the number of new miles built each year over the past decade. Our latest report for Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG), “Fewer New Miles: The US Transmission Grid in the 2020s”, shows that despite this decline in new construction, annual transmission spend has risen to more than $25 billion, with 90% of this spend driven by reliability upgrades and the replacement of aging equipment, which does not increase delivery capacity. FERC Order No. 1920 aims to reform long-term planning practices and facilitate the construction of new high-voltage lines. Both policymakers and regulators can capitalize on FERC’s issuance of Order 1920 to spur a massive investment in the construction of new high-voltage transmission lines to ensure a reliable and affordable transition to a cleaner grid. 4th year Engineering student: Driving Innovation in both Technology and Business.
2moSuch an important topic, especially as extreme weather events continue to challenge grid reliability. S&C's focus on intelligent and self-healing technologies is exactly the kind of forward-thinking innovation we need to create a resilient and sustainable energy future. Great insights from Ernst Scholtz!"
