Last week, Vistry Group opened the doors to its Coalville-based factory, to give members of the public an insight into its offsite construction techniques. Using automated production lines, Vistry is capable of producing thousands of complete timber frames a year, including walls, floors and roof joists. The tour was led by Paul Bilbie - Factory Manager, Hannah Rapson - Group Technical Innovation Co-ordinator and Georgie Haslam – Assistant Contracts Manager, who gave a guided tour of the facility and Vistry’s ‘Innovation Centre’, showcasing current and future technologies involved in housebuilding. Here’s what some of the tour attendees had to say about Vistry’s site. John Hefford – Thermal Economics: Firstly, I would like to thank Vistry for hosting the tour. It was interesting to see the organisation on the factory floor that offsite construction involves. For me, the highlight of the visit was the Vistry Innovation Centre. I really appreciated how each room had its own sustainability theme and was most interested in the building fabric. Vito Henning – Henkel: Overall very valuable tour and insights. Paul managed very well to showcase his passion for the offsite construction world and the enthusiasm for differentiation in processing and engineering. Gave confidence and trust. Tim Smyth – Anderselite I was genuinely impressed at how modern and clean their facilities were - Vistry Works facility is twenty-first century, with fantastic manufacturing capability, use of automation and technology adoption. The tour was educational for me, to gain key insight into how MMC are being utilised, and how offsite construction in this space can increase sustainability, reduce carbon, all whilst building at large scale. Catella and WPV Baubetreuung GmbH start #construction of the 17-storey office tower “KöTower” on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee. Construction of the KöTower at Königsallee 106 in Düsseldorf will officially begin on January 22, 2025. The 17-story #office tower is being built as a joint venture between Catella and the Pension Fund of Public Accountants and Sworn Auditors of North Rhine-Westphalia (WPV). The construction company Laarakkers Deutschland has already begun #demolishing the existing building from the 1960s. The building will incorporate an area of 2,000 square meters of photovoltaic systems, of which around 1,650 square meters will be in the green facade. A total of 200 plant species will characterize the roof areas and the facade. The aim is to achieve DGNB platinum certification. During #demolition, materials such as windows, raised floors and sanitary facilities will be removed for reuse. "The 'KöTower' provides the decisive impetus to upgrade the interface between Königsallee and Friedrichstadt," says Klaus Franken, managing partner of Catella Project Management.
