National Women's Day emerged from the labour movements in North America and Europe in 1909 (it expanded internationally in 1910).
It was a day dedicated to advocating for improving working conditions for women and other rights.
Now, 115 years later, we've made significant strides in advancing rights and labour conditions. Yet, our advocacy continues for various age-old and new challenges.
Approximately 135.6 years remain for women and men to achieve parity on various factors worldwide, a figure that has grown steeply post-pandemic (99 years pre-pandemic).
Given its history, I hope for a future (far sooner than 135 years away) where we no longer need a designated day to advocate for gender parity because we would have achieved it. Instead, we could celebrate women, allies and all those who paved the way for us year-round.
But for now, Happy #internationalwomensday!
