"Nothing we do is worth getting hurt for" – this principle guides us at Covestro every day. Safety is the foundation of everything we do. Because unsafe behavior or not taking potential dangers seriously can quickly have serious consequences, especially in our industry. On August 13, I visited our site in Antwerp for meetings and discussions with our colleagues there. The Antwerp team had a terrific idea with regards to safety. A few months ago, they opened the so-called "Safety Street", a room of about 200 square meters in which people can be trained on safety topics, such as personal protective equipment, working at heights, hazardous substances or electricity, among other things. And instead of PowerPoint presentations, all these topics are taught vividly using very concrete, comprehensible examples. This increases the learning effect and ensures that the gained knowledge really sticks. For this year, the safety street is aimed at workers from our contractors who work on site during our maintenance turnarounds. By 2025, it will extend to all regular contractors and eventually also to Covestro’s own Antwerp employees. Safety affects us all, and everyone must do their part to ensure that we all go home safe and sound, every day. The idea our colleagues in Antwerp came up with is so good that we are currently discussing how we can bring the concept of Safety Street to our sites in Germany – copy with pride! Business is no joke….. But, if I only had 6 months to start Vedang Polyflex LLP again, here’s  what I would do….. 1️⃣ I would divide my team in terms of technical proficiency and performance and utilize S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.) goals to tackle the whole operation. 2️⃣ I would seek mentorship from an experienced professional with a strong background in both business and law to provide guidance and support. 3️⃣ I would control costs by investing in raw materials and regularly checking equipment to avoid last-minute disasters. 4️⃣ I would oversee delivery operations, handle multiple shipments, fix delivery issues, and improve customer delivery records. 5️⃣ I would test new technology before implementing the system upgrades. That’s why pilot tests are better for profits and ROIs, than hopping on to every single new tech that comes into the market. With a courier manufacturing plant like Vedang Polyflex LLP, I have already faced numerous obstacles and will continue to face them in the future. But, if you could start a new business tomorrow, what would it be?

Today I’m taking some time to reflect on my journey at Pallidus where I had the opportunity to spearhead the expansion of their SiC powder and source charge production processes from a research and pilot scale to a level of production that can sustain their Albany facility. Some of my key accomplishments during my time include designing custom process equipment, leading production capacity planning across multiple manufacturing system generations, and developing technology roadmaps for next-gen production systems. My role involved collaboration with the facilities team and contractors for the installation of large equipment, close work with EHS staff to enhance safety protocols, and side by side development with many skilled technicians. What was accomplished in less than 2 years would have been unimaginable in twice that time frame at many startups or seasoned operations. I just hope the new test methods and discoveries I worked on in the end will support the team’s next breakthroughs. Wishing my former colleagues the best on their journey ahead! Despite recent termination post-furlough, I'm excited to leverage these experiences and skills in my next professional endeavor. This October, H&R Ölwerke Schindler - H&R Group welcomed the participants of the DIK (German Institute for Rubber Technology) "Rubber Technology Advanced Training Program": an excellent opportunity for an intensive exchange with experts from various companies in the rubber processing and supply industry. The discussions focused not only on the technical processes of our specialty production, but also on pressing issues such as sustainability and the future of transformation in our industry. H&R is committed to the challenge of developing innovative and sustainable solutions that continuously improve both our products and production processes. Always remember your roots and where you began! At the young age of 16, I embarked on my journey as a production operator in a ready meal factory. It was a humble start, but I was determined to make my mark. I seized every opportunity to learn and grow, immersing myself in every department and giving my all. Through hard work and dedication. Where production pushed me back I embarked on the journey to become an engineer but my heart was always within the fast paced world of production management. Today, I am proud to say that I have reached a senior level position. But it wasn't handed to me on a silver platter. I had to earn it through perseverance and relentless effort and adapting myself. I have worked at every level …cleaned toilets in a 3 piece suit prior to a major audit to ensure we achieved the grades we deserved… repaired machines after analysing the problems for over 8 hours when no engineers were available. I have worked endlessly on NPD projects for months for the sales team to win the credit, this only pushed me harder to win. Remember, success is not just about the destination, but the journey itself.
