Be Like Mike: Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire and former New York City mayor, has set a new benchmark for philanthropic support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with his historic $600 million donation to the country's four leading Black medical schools. This unprecedented investment will have a generational impact, significantly bolstering the endowments of institutions like Meharry Medical College, Howard University College of Medicine, and our member institution Morehouse School of Medicine - all of which play a crucial role in educating a disproportionate share of Black doctors in the United States. Everyone with the means to do so should strive to be like "Mike" - to leverage their resources in service of creating a more just, equitable, and inclusive society. Bloomberg's $600 million gift sets a new standard that philanthropists across America would do well to emulate. #bloomberg #philantropymonth #uncf #belikemike

Healthcare Operations Strategist | Transforming Clinical Processes for Efficiency | Advocate for Health Disparity Reduction
As a healthcare professional, I understand the importance of patients feeling connected to members of their healthcare team. Patients of color want to see doctors who look like them, which will likely result in greater compliance with treatment plans. Lets consider supporting/encouraging more black students to become doctors. This could be your investment in the survival of black patients. #moreblackdoctors
We need more Black doctors (moreblackdoctors.org). If you are able, please consider donating to the Charles J. Blackwood, MD Endowed Memorial Scholarship fund to support Black medical students at the University of Colorado (https://lnkd.in/d2PFeqMa). We have until June 30, 2024, to qualify for matching funds to reach our goal to provide a full-tuition scholarship for a Black medical student in every entering class. Thank you.

Most California Community Colleges in California are within a 25-mile drive of the nearest The California State University or University of California campus, according to the study by the The RP Group, the independent nonprofit that conducts research for California’s system of 116 community colleges. But among the 29 colleges that are not, a research team led by Darla Cooper and Daisy Segovia found lower rates of transfer from two-year to four-year institutions. Read more: https://bit.ly/4dUDbXu

Because relocating for two years is a BURDEN! Especially when you are moving to areas that are more expensive! Administrators safe and secure in their own homes are disconnected from the experience of the housing CRISIS in California. This is why integrating project based section 8 vouchers, for students that qualify, in student housing is so necessary. Make sure your campus family student housing is accepting section 8 vouchers transferred from other counties.Move to work counties please help reduce some of the risk involved with transfer for your most financially disadvantaged students! Education is supposed to disrupt the cycle of poverty, not exacerbate it.

Trainer, Consultant & Nonprofit Innovator in digital transformation & workplace wellbeing, recognized by Fast Company & NTEN Lifetime Achievement Award.
Must read report from Giving Gap and Heather Infantry on the state of black-founded nonprofits today. * Black leaders reported being deeply involved in their organization's daily operations. * Black leaders have personal experience related to their nonprofit's mission, fueling their commitment toward the organization's causes. * Founder's primary motivation for their work is passion and belief in the mission, followed by lived experience. * Passion and commitment don't pay the bills, many Black leaders need to supplement their nonprofit income with additional jobs due to financial constraints. *The top need identified is financial support for general operations. These reasons and others are why our San Jose Giving Circle has focused on the BIPOC-led proximate organizations in our neighborhoods. We have funded some extraordinary black-led nonprofits (fiscally sponsored projects) which face the challenges outlined above. These organizations include Parenting with a Purpose, Muindi Foundation, and PARTI Program founded by Colette Choates, Nyla Choates, Winston Ashby, Serena M., and Tim Muindi. Today is the last day of Black History Month, but these organizations deserve recognition and support everyday of the year! https://lnkd.in/gEGzB5jM

A groundbreaking $600 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies will significantly bolster the endowments of three out of four historically Black medical schools. The gifts represent some of the largest private donations ever made to historically Black colleges or universities. Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, and Morehouse School of Medicine will each receive $175 million, while Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science will get $75 million. Additionally, Xavier University of Louisiana, as it launches its new medical school, will receive a $5 million grant. Fueling dreams brings hope. Black Americans experience significantly worse health outcomes than white Americans. Part of the issues may be due to the lack of Black doctors. Despite representing 13% of the U.S. population, Black physicians accounted for only 6% of the medical profession in 2022. The donation matters even more now. Given the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn affirmative action and the growing challenges faced by programs promoting inclusion and equity in education, HBCUs will become even more critical in training and expanding the number of Black physicians https://lnkd.in/gyPJQYYq #medicine #bloomberg #philanthropy #education #hbcu #diversity #healthcare #doctors

Thanks Lizz! Every session about AI, an important emerging tool for our sector and one we need to take advantage of and do right!
Julie Wirtanen, CFRE and I were thrilled to see so many friends and colleagues, and to meet so many more, at the Association of Fundraising Professionals Colorado Chapter's Rocky Mountain Philanthropy Institute. The theme of "AI Doing this Right?" was timely and there were great sessions and conversations throughout the day. Congratulations to my fellow board members Chelley Canales, Carolyn Stevens-Wood, and the entire conference committee. And thank you to our terrific speakers and fellow sponsors. Carter, Advancing Philanthropy Worldwide was proud to play a part!
