Over the past decade, battery pack costs have significantly decreased from $780 to $139 per kilowatt-hour, greatly benefiting the electric vehicle (EV) market. However, this trend has recently stalled, posing a challenge to making EVs more affordable. Addionics breakthrough - The company is enhancing battery performance by focusing on the foil current collectors, which have not changed for three decades. Addionics employs electrochemical processes to create textured, three-dimensional copper and aluminum foils, which improve battery efficiency and lifespan. Funding and Growth: They have raised $39 million in Series B funding, led by GM Ventures and others, and plan to establish a $400 million factory in the U.S. for producing these advanced collectors. What implications does this have for the market? The new factory supports the Inflation Reduction Act's push for domestic content.
