📈 According to a recent White House report, the US semiconductor industry is poised to grow 25% by 2030 in part due to incentive funding from the CHIPS and Science Act, With current workforce growth, the industry is facing a serious employment gap. Programs like the recently announced TSMC apprenticeship program at Maricopa Community Colleges and Arizona State University are springing up to help create new pathways for workforce development in the industry. The $5 million dollar contribution comes from a philanthropic fund dedicated to “equitable workforce development initiatives.” The Phoenix area has also been designated by the White House as a Workforce Hub. Launching the first-ever Registered Apprenticeship program in semiconductors in the area is part of an effort to cultivate a local workforce as semiconductor companies build several new facilities, or "fabs," in the region. https://lnkd.in/eTGqkKrh Chamber Business News Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation

Boosted by the CHIPS Act, the semiconductor industry is expected to grow substantially, creating 115,000 new jobs by 2030. Of these new jobs, 40% are for technicians, roles that can be effectively filled through 6-12 month apprenticeship programs. However, there's a notable skills gap and outdated training programs, particularly in distressed communities. The current U.S. workforce system is struggling to keep up with the rapid changes in the semiconductor industry, particularly in distressed communities where inefficiencies, outdated policies, and a lack of adaptive training programs are common. These communities have access to only 2% of Department of Labor approved Apprenticeship opportunities, which are critical pathways to employment. These systemic issues underscore the need for a new approach to workforce development that can meet the technical demands of the industry and the socioeconomic needs of these communities. Here is a video describing the types of Technician opportunities, our AI-powered apprenticeship platform, Talented will train Youth for.

A need to promote an employer driven system of education and a conscious move away from the traditional classroom model. A switch from SIWES to Apprenticeship. The German and Swiss models have yielded great economic rewards for these countries. Success rate top notch. Reduction in unemployment and higher incidence of sustainable wealth creation Students should spend 80% of the time in industry and 20% in the classroom. Switch the 80/20 principle Theory helps to understand underpinnings and underlying concepts, issues and problems, but do nothing more. They hardly get you started! Practical, hands on, gives capacity and when applied over time leads to grounded doing, increased capacity and ability to pass on to others. Choose Apprenticeship against Internship Shula says so!! Our population makes a total switch not possible. We simply do not have the formal industry capacity. However, a new collaborative model with the informal sector, especially for technical colleges and polytechnics, will go a long way to get us started. We thank NBTE Give the informal sector some structure as learning fields through the RPL (Recognition of Prior learning) certification. They have earned it! As an informal business, just take an NSQ examination in your trade (it's just you stating what you've worked on over the years) and get certificated.
