https://lnkd.in/dFKH2VWV What Is Sexual Assault Awareness Month? Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about sexual intercourse, instruct people and communities about the best way to avoid sexual intercourse, and provide resources for survivors. It is usually observed in May. That is the month of the initial National Sexual Assault Symposium along with also the very first national sexual assault survey since the Sexual Assault Awareness Act has been passed into law in 1990. During this age, organizations across the nation are required to supply one sexual assault awareness program to each school and community complicated that they serve. } Each year, organizations may opt to concentrate on sexual assault awareness month. This is great because it enables survivors who may not otherwise get out and talk about their experiences to be discovered and supported by others. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and increase education regarding sexual assault to support survivors and eliminate violence. According to the CDC, in the United States, over one-half of women and about one-third of men have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. The prevalence and the impact of sexual assault are concerning and these issues need to be brought to light. Further, the physical and mental consequences of sexual violence are immeasurably devastating and can create long-term health impacts including future negative health behaviors. This year, the 23rd anniversary of SAAM focuses on the theme of Building Connected Communities. This theme emphasizes the widespread nature of sexual assault, affecting every culture and community. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center explains that by addressing the social and structural determinants of health, we can establish an environment where we can partake in community-level prevention. Manavi strives to address both the immediate needs of survivors and the long-term vision of establishing peaceful communities free from gender-based violence. During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we will continue to raise awareness about sexual assault and the services available to support survivors.
