Volunteer Engagement Strategist with 30 years of proven experience. Inspiring organisations to create impactful programmes.
Bringing back memories 😊 Do you remember the days when home internet was still new and accessing reference information came mainly in the format of paper? Back in the early 90s, one of the first books I bought that inspired me was by the late Sue Ellis. This book kickstarted my volunteering career and the principles of good recruitment that it taught me are still relevant today. When recruiting, it's important to understand the role you are looking to fill and target your approach to get interest from the right people through the channels they use. Most importantly, the recruitment process should be as simple as possible, putting the volunteer in the centre, rather than being driven by processes. What books have helped you on your career journey? I would love to hear back It may be a book that still sits on your shelf!

🌟 GLOBAL VOLUNTEER MONTH Forget about experience, certificates and fancy titles on a CV when you want to add another member to your team. Instead, look for that often hidden underline that points to a volunteer's track record. They're the problem solvers, the ones with plans A, B and C ready to go. The ones who don't just point out the problems, they find solutions and make things happen; the team players who always work with the bigger picture in mind, focusing on collective success rather than individual credit. They are the ones in a team who have the "what can I do to help" attitude. The ones who refuse to be held back by a lack of experience, or the frame of a job description. The ones you're unlikely to hear say "that's not my job" when there's work to be done. Volunteering is a leadership mindset. It's a value system to live by. These are the people you want on your team. You will never be wrong to choose them. Here's to all of you out there, #Volunteers, stealing sleep and personal time to help society do what society is too "busy" to do for its own good. #VolunteersMonth #natureactivists #humanrightsactivists #animalrightsprotectors #ProblemSolvers #GetTheJobDone
